Last call for sugar snap peas this season!!

As the summer progresses, these plants slow down in production considerably. We also rotate our crop space and need the trellis where these peas are to grow our watermelon and cantaloupe.

Come grab one of your final tastes of spring from the garden!

I feel so much pride when our littles start laying! It feels like such an accomplishment for them🎉🥚 I’m sure most of us don’t want to lay an egg a day/every other day 🫣

These photos are a good indication of how small they start, the difference between our first time layers and our 3 year old girls, and then the difference between those and a duck egg! Keep in mind these aren’t even jumbo duck eggs😳

You may notice that the inside of our farm stand looks a little different! ☀️

Between last week’s heat wave and the summer sun, our little shed-turned-farm-stand can get awfully hot. We’ve done everything we can to help keep it cooler without installing a full-blown AC system. 🫠

We recently added double reflective insulation to the ceiling to help keep the heat out and lower the ambient temperature inside. We also installed a cooling fan and a dark bug screen to help keep the stand cooler while still allowing for airflow.

That’s in addition to the solar exhaust fan we installed last year and the refrigerator that’s already stocked with eggs and other goodies that need to stay cool.

We’re always looking for ways to make the stand better - for both our produce and for all of you. Thanks for supporting our little farm! 🌱💚

Will my corn bounce back from this storm??

That’s a question we see a lot online after bad storms roll through, and here’s what we just experienced this past week.

Friday evening we had a storm roll through with wind gusts topping out at 70-80mph. I went down to the garden after it calmed down and found our corn basically taking a nap, almost fully laying down on its side. I was shocked it didn’t break, but those stalks are resilient.

The next question we hear is “should I stand it back up, should I trellis it, stake it…what should I do??”

If your corn hasn’t completely snapped at the base, just leave it be! Give it some time to recover and it will naturally stand back up pointing towards the sky all on its own!

The first picture is from ~30 minutes after the storm. The second picture is from Tuesday morning, about 3.5 days later. We’re super happy to start seeing some early silks and healthy plants!!

Cheers to plenty of full cobs coming later this summer!!

🥔 Look at these beauties! 😍

Yesterday’s potato harvest was one we’ve been looking forward to!

🥔 Natasha – A smooth, yellow potato that’s very similar to a Yukon Gold. It has a buttery flavor, creamy texture, and is perfect for roasting, mashing, potato salad, or just about anything else!

💜 Huckleberry Gold – One of our favorites! It has a deep purple skin with a stunning golden interior. It has a rich, buttery flavor and creamy texture that’s excellent roasted, mashed, or baked.

❤️ Red Port – A classic red skinned potato with creamy white flesh and a mild, slightly sweet flavor. It holds its shape well, making it a great choice for roasting, boiling, soups, and potato salads.

🤍 Kennebec – A versatile white potato with a higher starch content. It’s the perfect choice for fluffy mashed potatoes, crispy french fries, and baked potatoes.

These will be available in the farm stand in a few weeks. Potatoes store best after they’ve had time to cure, so we’re giving them a little time before putting them out for sale. Curing helps toughen the skin, extends their storage life, and enhances their flavor. Trust us… they’re worth the wait! 😉

They may be one of the prettiest chicken breeds around, but Golden Laced Wyandottes have so much more to offer than their stunning feathers! 🐔✨

From their striking black-and-gold lacing to their calm, confident personalities, it’s easy to see why they’re a favorite in backyard flocks.

Golden Laced Wyandottes are known for being:
🌼 Friendly but not overly needy
🌼 Calm and easy to handle
🌼 Cold hardy thanks to their rose combs
🌼 Great for families and backyard flocks
🌼 Reliable layers of beautiful medium to large brown eggs

They typically begin laying around 20 to 24 weeks of age and can produce about 180 to 240 eggs each year. While they may not be the most prolific layers, they’re dependable and tend to continue laying well through colder months.

This is Goldie, she is a sweet calm girl who is happy to approach and hop on your lap 💛 Watching this beautiful girl grow from a fluffy chick into such a gorgeous hen has been so much fun.

Do you have Golden Laced Wyandottes in your flock? We’d love to hear what you think of them! 🐓🌿

Check out Sprouts changes from 1 week old, to 7 weeks old up until just this week at 20 weeks old.

We know this is Sprout because our other Barred Rock, Sq**rt, was much smaller as a chick and has adorable knock knees, making them easy to tell apart.

If you’re thinking about adding chickens to your flock, Plymouth Barred Rocks are hard to beat.

💚 They are known for being calm, friendly, and curious. Many become the kind of chickens that happily follow you around the yard and enjoy interacting with people.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒They’re one of the best breeds for families with children. Their gentle temperament and patience make them a great choice for kids who are learning how to safely handle and care for chickens.

🥚They typically begin laying around 18 to 24 weeks of age, so we’re getting close to seeing Sprout’s first egg! Once they start, they’re dependable layers, often producing around 4 to 5 large brown eggs each week.

☀️They’re also hardy birds that do well through both hot summers and cold winters, making them a great all-around backyard chicken. And NJ sure is hot this week!
