What a wonderful 75th Highland County Fair! 🎡🐄
We are so incredibly proud of all the hard work these kiddos put into their exhibits. Watching them learn, work, and see their dedication pay off is truly something special.
Pleasant Brook Farms and Brock’s Farm Services were blessed to be able to help a couple of these kiddos with the purchase of their animals, and we are so proud to support them along the way. ❤️
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped, encouraged, donated, and supported these kids throughout the fair season. It truly takes a community, and we are grateful to be part of such a wonderful one!
Here’s to the next generation of hardworking, dedicated Highland County kids! 🐄🐑🐖❤️

It’s been a little while since we’ve posted, so we figured it was time for a little update on what’s been happening around the farm! 🌾

Our first year opening the farm for the Highland County Maple Festival was a hit! 🍁 We definitely learned a lot and have some things we want to improve on, but we were so thankful for everyone who came out and supported us. Opening our farm to everyone was something new for us, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

Since then, things certainly haven’t slowed down. We AI’d some of our cows this spring and purchased two cleanup bulls, so now we wait and hope for a good calf crop! Unfortunately, we also had one of those hard days that comes along with farming. We had to put Big Red down after he jumped a fence and broke his leg. Losing an animal is never easy, but we’re hoping we’ll get to see some of Big Red’s genetics come through in a few of our calves next spring. It would be pretty special to see a little piece of him continue on in the herd. ❤️

Of course, summertime around here also means a lot of time spent in the hay field! 🚜🌾 We’ve been busy trying to get hay put up whenever the weather decides to cooperate. It makes for some long days and late evenings, but that’s just part of summertime on the farm. There’s still plenty left to do, so we’ll be spending quite a few more hours in the tractor before hay season is over!

Next up will be weaning calves in the next couple of weeks, so things are about to get a little noisy around here! 🐮

We’re also really looking forward to the 75th Highland County Fair! 🎡 One of our favorite parts of fair week is seeing all the kids and the animals they have worked so hard with all summer. These kids spend countless hours feeding, breaking, washing, walking, and working with their animals to get them ready for that short amount of time in the show ring.

If you have the chance, come out and fill those stands for them! ❤️ These kids have worked hard all summer, and they deserve a crowd cheering them on.

🐐🐑 Goat & Sheep Show — Wednesday, September 2 at 10 AM
🐖🐄 Hog & Beef Show — Thursday, September 3 at 10 AM
💰 Livestock Sale — Saturday, September 5 at 2 PM

Come watch the shows, cheer on these hardworking kids, and if you’re able, come back Saturday and support them at the sale!

As always, there’s plenty going on around the farm and plenty more to come. We’re thankful for everyone who continues to follow along and support our little piece of Highland County. 🌾❤️

Busy morning here at Pleasant Brook Farms. AI day was in full swing!

Huge thank you to Aaron and Casey Thaler for housing our semen straws and handling the AI work. We’re also incredibly grateful to Clay and Harley for stepping in and lending a hand when our usual help couldn’t make it.

We had such a wonderful time hosting the Kindergarten class at our maple sugar camp! 🍁 The kids got to see firsthand how sap is collected and turned into delicious maple syrup. Their excitement and curiosity made the day even sweeter! From learning about the trees to watching the boiling process (and of course tasting the syrup!) and getting to buy their very own maple syrup, it was a fun and memorable experience for everyone. We love sharing this tradition and giving young learners a chance to connect with nature and where their food comes from. Thank you to the teachers, parents and students for spending the morning with us we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! 💛
