Nugget needs a new home! This is a beautiful Easter Egger who just started laying beautiful blue eggs. However, she is a bully! and needs to be rehomed into a larger established flock where the older girls would not put up with her mean girl antics. Normally it is not advisable bringing in a single bird to an established flock but in this situation it is ideal. She lives in Dublin and owners seeking a nice home for her. contact Serena : [email protected]

DON"T THROW AWAY THOSE PUMPKINS! Give them to your chickens! I find that that they love the white pumpkins - since they are more squash like and tastier.... the little orange pumpkins - forget it - none of my hens are interested. I am guessing there is some sort of chemical coating on them that turns away the chickens?

It is a bit silly this proposed lawsuit - since I now know that the US Supreme Court ruled recently in similar lawsuit over the pork industry. I do think it is terrible that even with California stricter laws on poultry - it is still a horrible life for chickens in factory farms. It is inhumane and abusive.

The lawsuit says California's minimum space requirements for hens - which was approved by voters - contributed to a historic rise in egg prices "by imposing unnecessary red tape on the production of eggs."

Dogs and chickens! Just remember, every farmer has a cat, dog, and chickens and they all seem to co-exist. Chicks are vulnerable to cats - but once the birds are mature it is not a problem. In fact, cats are afraid of hens. Dogs... that's another story. Most hens are not safe around small dogs.... if your dog has been trained not to jump on the furniture then it is always easy to train them to respect the chickens

Chickens are vulnerable in this heat; particularly black chickens. A simple way to cool them down is to spray their run and coop with water from the garden hose.
