Officially our largest Full Circle Furniture commission to date!
This is an approximately 19,000lb sugar maple tree (also sometimes known as rock maple, or hard maple).

At a few hundred years old, this giant maple was dying back due to rot in the crotch section (where the branches start). Arborists had intervened for years to try and save the tree, but in the end it posed a grave threat to the house, and the tree was in rapid decline.
“Full Circle Furniture” is what we call our process, of designing and building high-end, heirloom furniture from our clients’ saved trees.
Next we will be carefully milling this tree, with a specific design for a dining table in mind, before drying the material in our solar kiln.
Checking in the log weight calculator - of course this is approximate, but I can say it definitely felt that heavy moving and towing it.
Assessing the situation. The tree company could only drag it a few feet before dropping it, and when they dropped it , it dug deep into the soft ground.
“He did in fact apply on the parking brake.”
*important safety note* always put your truck in 4wd, and apply the parking brake when loading trailers. If you don’t the weight shift can cause your whole operation to take off uncontrollably down a hill.
A chain puller, sn**ch block and a bottle jack can get you out of any situation.
Our client assisted in pushing with his 35HP tractor, combined with the chain puller and some leverage, we made it on the trailer. This tree is many times heavier than the tractor, so shifting from lifting to pushing was the ticket.
A few extra tie downs, since “one strap is none”.
