We had to say goodbye to our sweet Carol today (our female Pekin) .
Something got her little leg in the pond — likely a snapping turtle, maybe a small gator (we haven’t seen any in over a year but ofc it’s always a possibility down here) — and the injury was too much for her. It was a tough sight, and she was in a lot of pain, so we made the heartbreaking call to let her go peacefully.
Farm life teaches you to expect loss, and usually I can take it on the chin. But this one… this one broke our hearts.
Carol was so sweet, loved cuddles, and had barely gotten started, we only brought her home in April.
This is only our second predator loss ever at this property , so all things considered we’ve been lucky. But still… goodness, it hurts.
Fly high, sweet Carol!
