Have a few steers available that don't want to travel to a sale barn. Give Gerald a call or message here and I'll pass it along. Thanks.

Taking care of the cows isn’t just in sunny weather, though that is when they tend to go on walk-abouts more.
Gerald is 4th generation farmer on paternal family ground, the current farm house was built in 1916. Having row crops and cattle causes some busy days, but the two go together. Our cattle graze the stalks after harvest to (1) reduce volunteer corn in the soybeans [or whatever the next crop is in rotation on that field] and (2) work the soil and add fertilizer. They are our autonomous fertilizer applicators.
One year the cows were still grazing corn stalks when soybeans were planted. That bean crop was a higher yielding crop than the previous bean a few years prior. And the next corn crop even had higher yield. In nature, even our man created environment, all things are connected. Gerald is a Certified Crop Adviser with a Sustainability Specialty Certification. Kim is a Certified Forester. Together we are working to improve the soil, use less chemicals and other artificial inputs. Sustainable agriculture.
Gerald’s dad was a conservationist before it was a thing. He built ponds and planted windbreaks. He showed his son a great land and livestock ethic. The cows are never given hormones. They only have antibiotics if they are sick - the calves in one herd get a shot shortly after birth to fight off a natural fungus in the soil. The calves get supplement feed when needed. Some have names.
