Some nights, having a homestead humbles you in ways nothing else can.

One minute, you're in the kitchen cooking dinner for your family, going about an ordinary evening. The next, you're outside doing everything you possibly can to help an animal you love, desperately hoping that somehow you'll be able to save them.

Tonight, we fought for one of our ducks. We tried everything we knew to do. We gave her every chance we could. But sometimes, no matter how badly you want it and no matter how hard you fight, you still have to say goodbye.

People may see them as "just animals," but to us, they're so much more than that. We go outside every single day—multiple times a day—to care for them. We make sure they're fed, watered, safe, and loved through the heat of summer, the freezing cold, and even those brutal -40° days. We worry about them, celebrate the little moments, and know every one of their personalities. In so many ways, they are family.

And when you've done everything you possibly can and it still isn't enough... it hurts. It hurts knowing you couldn't fix it. You replay everything in your mind, wondering if you could have noticed something sooner, done something differently, fought a little harder.

I wouldn't trade this life for anything. This homestead, this life we've built, is everything I've ever prayed for. But nights like tonight remind me that loving animals so deeply also means sometimes experiencing the heartbreak of losing them.

Tonight, we're saying goodbye with heavy hearts. I just hope somehow she knew how loved she was and how hard we fought for her. 💔🦆

🌿 WHY DEAD CREEK HOMESTEAD?

Cleaning isn't exactly our favorite pastime around here. 😂

But I wanted something different for our own home — cleaning products that I actually felt good about using around my family.

So I started making my own.

Then I realized... maybe other families would like them too. ❤️

That's how Dead Creek Homestead started.

We make small-batch home & laundry cleaning products right here at our homestead, and now we're sharing them with our neighbors.

We're still growing, learning, testing and figuring this little business out — but every bottle you buy supports a LOCAL family instead of a giant corporation.

And honestly?

That means a lot to us. 🌿
