It's a three for day.

For Juneteenth, the Domini Veneti Appassimento for $16.99 is perfect with soul food and southern barbecue. Rich flavors and big fruit in dry red wine.

For Scotland's World Cup game tonight, the most popular Scotch whiskey in Scotland, Famous Grouse, affectionately known to the locals as a Low Flyer
$24.99 a 750ml.

Father's Day Favorites and a food pairing at $44.99 the Vatan from Toro,Spain for the best grilled steak ever. The wine needs to be opened at least two hours before serving, three or four or more would be even better.

Father's Day Favorites and a food pairing. $39.99 each.
Legendary wine making family,Prüm, legendary vineyard, Wehlener Sonnenühr, combine for a medium sweet Riesling that is spectacular with barbecue pork and chicken.
The big brother to the $24.99 Rioja, this Reserva from Rioja Alta, is equally good with a steak from the grill and a garlic rubbed pork chop. Caveat Open the bottle a minimum of two hours before serving.

Father's Day Favorites and a food pairing. $34.99 each

From the town of Cassis in the South of France, there is an obscure white blend that is popular in France and the Boston area. Why only Boston? Back in the 60's there was a Boston based TV chef who loved this wine with fish. So every restaurant had to offer this. You can figure it out. Halibut is the best.

Chocolate Block was the first high end blend I bought from South Africa. The wine has no chocolate flavor, but the block of soil the grapes are grown on, looks like milk chocolate.

If you're buying Dad a steak, I strongly suggest the USDA Prime not choice, rib eye steak. Expensive, but Dad's worth it.

"Orange" wines are a new and popular category of wine. Dry white wines , orange in color. I hate them. Viura is one of Spains most popular white grapes, I hate it. This proves your mother correct, two wrongs don't make a right. I don't know what food this works with, but it's popular.
Argentina is famous for steaks. Argentina is famous for the Malbec variety of grape. This is wonderful wine
Open two hours before serving. Goes great with Chimichurri sauce too.

Father's Day Favorites and a Food Pairing. $24.99 per bottle.

Best kept secret is Coteaux du Giennois the town next to Sancerre. For $24.99 you get the equivalent of a $49.99 Sancerre. Serve chilled with raw bar, shellfish or goats cheese.

From La Rioja Alta in Spain their Viña Alberdi Reserva is a wonderful pairing with grilled pork. It's not sweet nor heavy, so it won't work with barbecue sauce. I rub the pork chop or ribs with fresh garlic before salt and pepper. A hint of cinnamon is yummy too.

In North East Italy there's a famous saying, " We sell the Americans the Pinot Grigio and we keep the Friulano for ourselves.". A dry white wine, similar to Pinot Grigio, but it makes food taste better. Brilliant

Saumur-Champigny is a little town on the Loire River in France. There they grow the lighter Cabernet Franc grape and make it into a dry red wine. Perfect summer red for grilled meats, too light for barbecue,. Chillable too but not ice cold. Wonderful with all sorts of French cheeses and charcuterie.

Father's Day Favorites and a food pairing, part 2.

At $14.99 per bottle each, I love the classic unoaked Chardonnay from the Macon region of France. This dry white wine is yummy with any white meat with a creamy or cheesy sauce.

From Portugal, the dry red blend S. Francisco. Complex tasting blend not on the heavy side, I loved it the other day with a peppers, onion, sausage and cheese sub. Perfect Father's Day Food.

The Cerejeiras white blend from Portugal is perfect with fish n' chips or a deep fried fisherman's platter.

The Le Salare Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from Italy is perfect with everything with red sauce from pasta to pizza.

The other night I was with my Gals and Guys Gourmet Group. The tasting theme was lighter summer reds
The BIGGEST surprise was the yummy Spanish Rioja at $14.99 with a meatball and cheese sub with lots of fresh basil. The fresh basil was brilliant with the Rioja. Have put pizza with fresh basil and of course spaghetti and meatballs with fresh basil on my to-do list.

Very difficult for Mother Nature to have perfect weather conditions for this difficult grape. Only the fifth one I've carried in over fifty years.
