Well, we all knew that they had already made their decision before we walked into that meeting tonight. I am so proud of every single one of you who got up to speak! Before I left there, I was given a threat that I would be guaranteed to lose the election, if I continued doing things like this. I will ALWAYS stand up for what I believe is right, even if it means getting backlash! And, I don’t plan on losing this election. If anyone is willing to help out, I could always use help door knocking. I have a lot of ground to cover by myself. It’s actually super easy to do! I could also use help getting signs out. It is SUPER IMPORTANT for everyone to sign this ASAP! The only way we will be able to make an impact and get the BZA to change their minds about approving this CAFO is to come out in LARGE numbers on the petition and at the meeting tomorrow night. Be BOLD and COURAGEOUS! If you are not, then nothing will happen. This is the unfortunate reality. Water concerns - Hulsbosch IDEM violation

Attached below (link) is one of Hulsbosch Dairy Farm’s (Letts, IN) IDEM violations. This violation was the result of a sandpit failure which led to manure flowing into a storm water pond. In the pond, a shutoff valve was left open, causing contaminated (manure) water to flow into a ditch.

Clifty Creek runs near the back of the proposed location, and Flatrock River is not far either. Water contamination concerns are very valid in this situation and it is crucial that baseline testing is completed!

Complainant and Respondent desire to settle and compromise this action without hearing or adjudication of any issue of fact or law, and consent to the entry of the following Findings of Fact and Order.

Water pollution/contamination has been a large concern when discussing the potential of Hulsbosch Dairy coming to Milroy. As our friends in Morristown mentioned, we’ve been down this *polluted* road before!

Milroy- you’ve been down this road before. Wide spread dairy CAFO contamination in 2016 dumped 30,000 gallons of dairy waste in Little Flatrock River forcing Greensburg water utility to close surface water intake. (Hoosier Environmental Council 2018)

The public hearing for Hulsbosch Dairy will be held on April 3rd, 2024 at 5:30pm at the Rush County Court House. This is a “special exception” hearing because the proposed operation exceeds the head count limit to use the scoring system, in Rush County, to approve or decline a CAFO. Hulsbosch is proposing a 6500 head operation, while the limit for the scoring system is 2235 dairy cows (see scoring conversion chart attached below). It is VITAL that you attend this hearing if you would like to voice your opinions and concerns!
