Milwaukee-based family business Badger Ham is looking towards its first-ever expansion to another facility in Milwaukee.
The company has only sold different variations of ham for its past 87 years of operation. The expansion, combined with a recent leadership transition to its fourth generation of family leadership, could work towards expanding Badger Ham's product portfolio to other proteins.
"I didn't realize how rare of a bird we are," said Quinn Schwellinger, vice president of Badger Ham. "(We are) a midsize, independently-owned meat processor using quality ingredients, treating our employees right, and we aren't interested in hedge funds or private equities."
Recent investments in new technology like a $650,000 slicer and a robotic palletizer, along with the introduction of vice president of operations Ben Schroeter, are other factors contributing to the company's impending growth.
"We're just doing our thing, and that's really rare," said Schwellinger.
