πŸ˜‚ It happens to all of us eventually.

You plant a modest little bulb in spring, water it a few times, and by August it is towering over the fence and staring down the mailman.

Cannas do not do subtle, and honestly, neither do the gardeners who grow them.

πŸ˜† Tag someone whose cannas got out of hand this summer.

🌴 If you want a plant that looks tropical from across the yard, this is it.

Musifolia canna bulbs grow into towering, banana like foliage that gives a garden instant jungle presence, even before the blooms show up.

It is one of our most requested varieties for gardeners who want height and drama without babysitting a true banana plant.

πŸ›’ Shop Musifolia bulbs while they are available.

πŸ“¦ A question we get more than you would think.

We are not able to ship cannas to Canada, since the freight expense and required agriculture certificates make it too costly to offer reliably.

For our gardeners in Hawaii and Alaska, we are glad to help, it just takes a quick call or email so we can put together a customized freight quote for your address.

πŸ“ž Reach out any time if shipping to your state needs a closer look.

πŸ” Time to settle this one.

Myth. Cannas are not true bulbs at all, even though we call them that out of habit.

A true bulb, like a tulip, has layers of fleshy storage leaves arranged around a central growing point, similar to an onion. Cannas, on the other hand, grow from rhizomes, which are underground stems that store energy and produce new roots and shoots for the next season.

πŸ“š Did that surprise you or did you already know?

🌸 Big blooms need a little help getting there.

Cannas are heavy feeders during their growing season, and steady nutrition is what keeps the flower spikes coming instead of stalling out halfway through summer.

A balanced garden fertilizer worked into loose, fertile soil at planting time, then reapplied through the season, gives cannas the boost they need to keep producing new blooms.

πŸ’Ύ Save this one for your next feeding schedule.

πŸŽ₯ Some things are worth the wait.

Every towering, blooming canna bed you see in July started as a plain, unremarkable bulb sitting in the dark months earlier.

Growth like that does not happen all at once, it happens one season at a time.

🌾 Every big thing starts small.

Great Grandma Frances Horn's aunt sent her just six canna bulbs from Arkansas in the early 1920s, never guessing they would eventually grow into one of the largest canna operations in the world.

It is proof that a small gift from family can turn into something that lasts generations.

🌻 Have you ever had a plant that started from just a handful of bulbs or seeds?

πŸ‚ Getting cannas started right sets up the whole season.

Choose a spot with plenty of sun and loose, fertile, well drained soil, since heavy clay or thin sandy soil will hold cannas back until it is amended with organic matter.

Plant bulbs a few inches deep with the eyes facing up, water them in well, and be patient for the first couple of weeks while roots establish.

🍌 Not a joke, an actual botanical fact.

Cannas belong to the order Zingiberales, the same broad plant family that includes bananas and gingers, which explains the wide paddle shaped leaves and tropical look.

It is a fun bit of trivia to drop the next time someone asks why your canna leaves remind them of a banana plant.

🌿 Did you know cannas and bananas were relatives?

πŸ’¬ This is the kind of message that makes our week.

Season after season, we hear from gardeners who ordered a few bulbs to try, then came back the following spring for a bigger order once the first planting filled in their beds beyond expectations.

That kind of repeat trust is what a family run farm works for.
