Good Soil Farm, LLC

Good Soil Farm, LLC Glenn and Stephanie Poole run a 2-acre bio-intensive market garden in the Mims, FL community using regenerative growing practices to grow all kinds of produce.

We welcome you to visit the farm by appointment. See our contact information and text or call. We are a market garden dedicated to regenerative agriculture growing produce that is a powerful ingredient to your personal health and a blessing to the environment. We never till our soil and we never use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. We make our own compost from safe and

locally-gathered biomass, taking it through a thermophilic (heating) process to remove pathogens and observing it microscopically to verify that it is safe and living soil, filled with the beneficial organisms that will yield nutrient-dense, fantastic-tasting produce. Some of the favorite produce we specialize in includes: Salad blends, heirloom tomatoes, native Seminole pumpkins, and amazing watermelons.

Most gardeners leave half their raised bed underused by planting just a few crops. ๐ŸŒฑ A smart 4ร—4 grid changes that completely โ€” letting you grow up to 20 crops in the same space, with each square producing more than once per season. Great compost starts with premium ingredients. We start them off right and take good care of them.

A neighbor took down a giant live oak tree a week ago and I took all the branches under 3 in in diameter. I've chipped them all into a windrow, and in this video I show you how I inoculate the pile with extract made of premium compost. The inoculation will bring millions of beneficial organisms into the pile and give it a head start on decomposition.

After this, I will let the pile sit for months, taking care to be sure it is always kept moist and never dry out.

After about 6 months, if the entire pile is at ambient temperature, I can use it straight on the garden as a bulk compost. Much of it however will be added to premium compost cages that are 1) thermophilic and are heated and turned or 2) carefully controlled, aerated, static piles (Johnson-Su bioreactors) that will continue to build massive fungal biomass over the next 12 months.

It may seem strange to many that fuel shortages have such an impact on the food supply, but crude oil and natural gas are the raw materials from which conventional fertilizers, such as urea, sulfur, and ammonium nitrate, are produced.

To say nothing of the fuel required to ship, till, plant, harvest, process, cool, and transport from seed to table.

โ€‹As growers and food systems thinkers, we are even more concerned about what this means for food security and long-term impacts on human health and survival, even if the conflict ends soon. This article from Purdue University's Center for Commercial Agriculture lays it out clearly:

Important Update: Spring Season Pause ๐ŸŒธ

To our wonderful community: We have made the difficult decision to cancel our spring produce season.

Our lead harvester, Stephanie, has stepped away from the farm to provide 24-hour care for her father following a stroke. Family comes first, and we are focusing all our energy on supporting her during this recovery period.

However, the farm isn't totally quiet! Since I (the soil and compost guy) am still here on-site, we will have small quantities of our premium compost available for sale. If you are looking to give your own spring garden the best possible start, our nutrient-rich compost is ready for you.

Compost Pricing & Details:
โ€ข โ€‹$10 if you bring your own 5-gallon bucket.
โ€ข โ€‹$14 if we provide the bucket for you.

โ€‹We apologize for the lack of produce in your kitchens this season, but weโ€™re happy to help your own backyard crops thrive in the meantime. We truly appreciate your grace and kind thoughts for Stephanieโ€™s family.
