Dangerous Roadways--

As the sun rises on a brisk and painfully cold 10° Minden, the celebrated thawing of yesterday has created a newer more dangerous situation.

Black Ice

Black ice is patches of frozen roadway that is almost indistinguishable from the rest of the road, but extremely slick. These patches can cause spontaneous loss of vehicle traction to even 4WD and AWD vehicles.

Temperatures are not set to finally climb above freezing until around noon. Please continue to limit travel until the roads thaw again.

Today the danger is not what you can see , but what you can't.

WEATHER ALERT--

As temperatures remain below freezing, the wintery precipitation has begun to accumulate on the roadways. Travel should be restricted to ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ONLY.

Excessive traffic only worsens the icy road conditions due to refreeze of melted ice or snow. Also, with the current conditions, emergency services can be delayed for an extended period of time. Tow or pull-out services will not be provided by the City of Minden and local businesses offering such services may be unavailable depending on call volume. Additionally, these services may result in additional fees due to the current weather conditions.
