Y’all, I know I brag on my kids a lot, but I just had to share this one.
We sent Graham out to close up the chickens—a two-minute job, tops. Thirty minutes later, we realized he still hadn’t come back inside, so Andrew headed out to see what was taking so long.
Turns out Hope, our mama Muscovy duck, had made it safely into the coop… but her ducklings had not. 🤦🏻♀️
Graham went looking for them and found them all the way across the pond, completely on their own. We’ll try not to judge Hope’s mothering skills too harshly. 😂
The problem was that Graham was only wearing Crocs. He made it to the other side of the pond, but every time he got close, the ducklings just pushed themselves farther away. He quickly realized the only way to save them was to walk straight through the brush, scoop them up himself, and carry them back.
By the time he got home, his socks were COVERED in stickers and burrs. His shorts were covered. Apparently he’d even taken a tumble because they were stuck all over his back, too.
But he never gave up.
He was determined to get those ducklings safely home, and when all was said and done, he tucked both of them right beside Hope in the coop.
Watching him care for his animals with that kind of responsibility, patience, and determination makes this mama so proud. ❤️🐥🦆
