New stuff roundup time! Here are a few items from each department we’re excited about.
Starting off with beer, we are traveling coast to coast with Junkyard Brewing Company . There is a new school West coast IPA humbly named after the head brewer, Caesar Corey, and a new East Coast featuring an experimental New Zealand hop never seen before called Coin Operated. The third is a tasty IPA called Jungle Bird from Little Thistle Brewing that you can also have at Ball Park Cafe at the Minnesota State Fair ! Try it there and get it here.
In wine, we’re starting off nerdy with the super-Tuscan Flaccianello Della Pieve, considered one of the world’s greatest and most legendary expressions of 100% Sangiovese from Fontodi . Then we have a delightful surprise in a rosé Port from Quevedo Port Wine that makes also makes great spritz! We also have a unique 4 grape red blended Alsatian from Pépin .

In spirits, the Black Maple Hill label has returned with their new red label bottles by Julian Van Winkle III with legendary Stitzel-Weller distillate. We have a very fun strawberry amaro liqueur from Matchbook Distilling made from strawberry wine and a brandy made from said wine; that makes an easy spritz! We also got Forthave Spirits latest gin, Migratory Notes: New York edition; super unique and made from juniper, coriander seed, lime peel, cardamom, grains of paradise, black lime, and wild mint, representing the migrant history of New York.

Sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses.🌹🌹🌹🌹

In April, our liquor store GM Bennett did exactly that, while selecting a private Four Roses barrel in the company of some family from Minnesota!

Four Roses presents a uniquely challenging selection process, with 10 different barrels to choose from: one barrel of each of their 10 recipes, age and proof undisclosed. Participants thief each barrel into their glasses, before nosing and tasting them blindly.

The winner? This 11-year and 1-month-aged OESK barrel-strength bourbon (for the nerds, DS-37-3D). Bennett says, “This barrel immediately stood out to me during the nosing process. The aromas were vivid and discernible — quince, baked apple pie, blackberry, caramel, maple, chamomile tea. It has a lovely viscosity and a finish that doesn’t quit. You’re left with a coating flavor of the perfect s’more. Carie, Pat and I agreed that this would be the ideal bonfire bourbon.”

Available at France 44 while supplies last! $114.99/bottle.

New spirits roundup time! Each department was limited to 3 items so we don’t reach Instagram’s text limit this time, so let’s get started!

Starting off with spirits, Mijenta Tequila graced us with their Symphony No 3! This is an extension of the aging of No 2 to an añejo in a custom barrel featuring oak from Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Rich and dessert with vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and cherries. This is an allocated offering so get it while you can! Then we have Zissou Red Bitter Aprtitivo, which is an allocated-natural alternative to other red bitters like Campari. Delicious and perfect for cocktails from Wilderness Club . Then from KOVAL Distillery we’re featuring their Four Grain Whiskey with a mash bill of Oat, malted barley, rye, and wheat. Like a fig and banana pudding with pie crust and spicy finish. This beauty from Chicago will surprise you!

In wine, we have cans of Bodkin Wines Bubbly White. Now you don’t have to share! Crisp, lively, and refreshing, it’s bursting with citrus and green apple notes. A perfect grab-and-go. Next, we have the Where’s Linus Sauvignon Blanc. A crisp, delicious BIPOC-produced natty wine. Made with minimal intervention, the natural white brings a bright, zesty acidity with beautiful notes of lemongrass, ripe citrus, and a clean, mineral finish. Then we have Istine sangiovese rock Chianti Classico; a great, super juicy Italian red. Packed with vibrant cherry, earthy herbs, and smooth tannins, it pairs effortlessly with weeknight pasta/pizza, or your favorite cheese board!

In beer, it’s Oktoberfest season! We have a classic Festbier, Late To The Party, from BlackStack Brewing, golden and crispy. Then we have an oak-aged Festbier from Modist Brewing called The Time Is Nigh, the oak providing more depth and roundness to the body of this celebratory lager. And then we have a Märzen from Pryes Brewing Company. Compared to a Festbier, Märzens tend to focus more on their caramelly malt and have a heavier body to them. Come try them out and compare!

Introducing the latest collaborative barrel selection from the finely tuned palates at Thomas Liquors and France 44, an 11-year Willett Family Estate Bourbon! Dubbed “Rickhouse Cat”, barrel 9158 was found on the final rick of Floor 1 in Rickhouse I. Our barrel name pays homage to the working felines at Willett Distillery who patrol the grounds as mousers and greeters, and sometimes as free entertainment.

“Rickhouse Cat” features Willett’s wheated mashbill—65 corn/20 wheat/15 malted barley—lending a completely different profile than our last year’s pick, “The Great MN Get-Together” (selected with Thomas and our friends down the street Picnic | A Linden Hills Bar). This bourbon pops like a cherry bomb on the nose - silky Shirley temple, cream soda, Colorado peach and honeycomb that linger through the long finish. A true honey barrel.

If you are familiar with WFE single barrels, you’ll know that they’re a rarity to be treasured! Only around 300 barrels are released to the world each year. Last year’s collab barrel sold out FAST. Available at both F44 and Thomas Liquors while supplies last. $475/bottle.
