An important announcement from Bauhaus Brew Labs: When we opened our doors in July of 2014, we had a simple goal: to share the sense of joy associated with the uniquely German concept of Gemütlichkeit with our community by offering crisp, refreshing German-style lagers, a vibrant, inviting taproom space, and amazing event experiences. Over the past 12 years, we have accomplished that goal and more, thanks to you, our loyal fans and followers. We've come to think of so many of you as family, and it means the world to us that you've supported us over the years.
Unfortunately, we have faced a number of serious challenges over the past few years, including substantial cost increases in our supply chain, shifts in consumer preferences away from craft beer, a global pandemic, and most recently, a surge in federal immigration enforcement that directly targeted our wonderful city and deeply affected businesses across the hospitality industry. We have been working furiously to identify ways to shift our business model, reduce costs, increase revenues, and find a pathway to operational stability. Despite pulling every lever available to us, the financial headwinds have proven to be insurmountable, and we have made the very difficult and heartbreaking decision to close our doors.
We want you to know that we did not arrive at this decision without an exhaustive fight. We diversified into new product categories, including Bolo Hard Seltzer, Nah N/A Beer, and Tetra THC beverages, and brought on co-packing partners to keep our production humming. We reimagined our taproom with more programming than at any point in our history. Ownership and staff worked tirelessly to put solutions into action. We leave knowing we gave everything we had.
With all of that said, there is still time for celebration ahead. We can’t wait to see everyone at our annual Liquid Zoo celebration during Art-A-Whirl this weekend. This has always been our favorite way to kick off the summer season and celebrate amazing local artists, and we can think of no better way to move into our final chapter than to be surrounded by the community that means so much to us.
We intend to keep our taproom open through the end of June, making the most of absolutely every moment we have left together. Mark your calendars for the weekend of June 26-28, where we intend to put on one last bash to celebrate our 12-year anniversary and going-away party. We are going to send Bauhaus off the way it deserves: with great beer, great music, and the people who made this place what it is.
To our staff: you are the soul of Bauhaus. From the first pint poured to the last, you have shown up with professionalism, warmth, and a love for this place that humbles us every day. We could not be more proud of each and every one of you.
To our brewing and production partners, vendors, and collaborators who have been part of our journey: thank you for believing in us and for helping us make beer we are genuinely proud of. And to you, our customers, our regulars, our community: thank you. Thank you for every pint, every birthday party, every first date, every post-work gathering, every Liquid Zoo, and every quiet Tuesday afternoon spent in our taproom. You are the reason Bauhaus mattered, and you are the reason it will continue to matter long after our doors close.
Keeping a brewery alive for 12 years in this city, in this industry, in these times: that is something. We are proud of it, and we are proud to have shared it with you.
With love and gratitude, Matt, Lydia, Mike, Mark, Maura, Howard, Kathy, Leah, and the entire Bauhaus family
