Welcome to week 9 with the interns! This week we had the amazing opportunity to visit Philly farm in Osceola Wisconsin! We prepared lots of yummy food from the garden like stuffed peppers and potato salad to our farm visit. At Philly, we also harvested lots of carrots, met many of their animals, pigs, cows and a donkey and hiked down an awesome waterfall. We also collaborated with many cool local orgs like Metro Blooms and Black Radish, digging up root stock at Black Radish and transplanting more wonderful plants into our companion planting garden.

This was the last week at the farm! This week our theme was gratitude and stewardship! We finished our last week at the garde tending to our harvest, picking lots of green beans, tomatoes, and salad greens. We also made Sauerkraut with Zach, focusing our stewardship principles towards our gut health and learning more about the important ways fermented foods diversify the microbiome in our stomachs. We also learned more about soil health through composting practices, tending to our compost bin in the garden!

We finished the week off visiting Root Springs for our final retreat! We enjoyed lots of yummy homemade pizza and spent our time in joyous community, reflecting on our internship experience with lots of gratitude and care! Thank you The Fields at Rootsprings MN!

Welcome to Week 8 with the interns! This week, our theme was Building Culture: Transition and Transformation. We had the opportunity to step away from the farm and steward a roundabout in the neighborhood planted with sage, milkw**d, sunflowers, and phlox, an important reminder of how spaces, plants, and communities can grow and transform with care. We also made chokecherry tarts and yummy risotto, and traveled to Stone Creek Farm to learn more about fruit tree farming in high tunnels. Did you know you can grow peaches in Minnesota??!!

This past week our theme was Policy and Organization in Ag! We visited Wozupi Tribal Gardens at Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, learning more about how tribal nations in Minnesota practice traditional foodways, and distributing food to their local communities. Wozupi has an amazing maple sugar processor, and a really cool nut and fruit tree milpa system they are growing! We had the opportunity to w**d their Hickory Trees and stumbled across many ants and quack grass!

We also harvested some of our first tomatoes of the season from the farm, discussed the importance of our waterways with Destiny at Four Sisters, labeling storm drains with inspiring messages using stencil and spray paint. We also visited Eve at Milwaukee Ave and Cooked lots of yummy food!
