Goodnight sweet bees. The winter is coming, the skies have turned grey and snow is on its way.

While bees do not hibernate during winter, we do what we can as their care partners in adding a winter wrap to help keep them warm. We added space reducers to help close up holes.

We learned today we don’t need add piles of sugar but instead got what we needed to make winreeized food Pattie’s that we will add in a couple weeks. Joanne suggested we do it at Thanksgiving if the temps are right so our dear girls will have a feast.

This year we had extra hay bales so we added some around the hives to help as wind protectors.

We tucked in the Story Garden hives yesterday and Northend hives today. We said good night and tuck in tight to the girls.

Over winter I like to go out and drink my morning tea and read some poetry to them so they don’t feel quite so alone. I love our little winter ritual.

The apiaries are set. The slow season is upon us.

Let the bees remind us all that winter is a time to slow down, tuck in, and rest.

The honey has been harvested! Joanne and I have been busy the last week and half gathering the honey, extracting it and this week, jarring it! Friends, this honey tastes SO good!

Humboldt Honey MPLS is a neighborhood driven, community centered business. Our apiaries (hives) live in community gardens for engagement and education. Plus we are able to fill these spaces with organic and native pollinators in an effort to help and protect the bees.

Because we are a small operation, we harvest once a year which brings you a garden variety honey full of flavors from the whole summer.

This year we are offering pint size jars of raw and filtered honey for $18 a jar. Text 612-227-0410 or email [email protected] to arrange a time to pick up.

Pick up is located in the Folwell neighborhood in North MPLS.

Currently we are only filling orders for local residents. We know and understand that our best medicines (thru food and herbs/plants and honey) serves us the most when it is local. The closer you are to your food and medicine source, the better it can serve you and the environment.

What a beautiful day!

We had 10 volunteers come out to help build 2 hives (two deep boxes and two supers each so a grand total of 8 boxes and 80 frames), build the base of the fence and get all the boxes primed and painted!

It was a solid day of connection and stories, and investment in each other and the sacred work of honoring and living with bees.

Thank you SO much to those who came out and helped Humboldt Honey MPLS get their Bee Education Lab set up at Northend Community Garden!

We are expanding! Friends our beautiful bee friends survived winter which means we will need to split the hives this spring before they swarm.

We have been working with Northend Hardware to add two hives to their community garden on Penn and Lowry.

Tomorrow (Sunday April 6) we are meeting at Northend Hardware to build two Bee Hives and fence in the new location in the garden.

We would love to do this with you if you are able. There will be no bees present, we are simply constricting the boxes and fencing off their new home before we move half the bees later this month.

We will have coffee and muffins for volunteers!

This exciting news means that The Story Garden location becomes the homestead location and the Northend Garden will become the education lab where we can do some training and education workshops!
