Planning to join us for our Annual Owner Meeting at Gale Woods Farm on Sunday, Sept. 13? Lunch reservations are officially OPEN until Aug. 31! 📣

We’re thrilled to partner once again with Baba’s Hummus House and Gastrotruck to bring all your favorites back, like the beef brisket sandwich and creamy hummus bowls! Plus, we’ve upgraded our food service process this year to make picking up your meal smoother and faster than ever. 🙌 There will be delicious options, including vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free choices. 😋

While the event itself is free and open to all Lakewinds owners, to prevent food waste we do require lunch tickets. Meals for adults are $5, while kids' options are free. All proceeds are donated to our local food shelf partners: ICA, PROP, and VEAP.

Meet Athena, a kind, creative, and welcoming face behind the beverage bar at our Richfield store! ☕

Whether they're whipping up a handcrafted latte or catching up with regulars, Athena thrives on creating real community connections. "I'm in a unique space with the beverage bar because people do linger and talk to you while they have their coffee," Athena shares.

Another way they're connecting with community is through their studies. When they aren't behind the counter crafting signature drinks or chatting with shoppers, Athena is learning sign language interpreting (ASL). 👋 "My goal is to do freelance interpreting. I even met my mentor here. I was just signing behind the beverage bar nonsensically, and this woman rushes over saying 'Are you a student? Do you need a mentor?' Best connection I've ever made," they say. "[My manager] has done everything he could to make sure I could still work and go to school for ASL. I'm so unbelievably lucky. I don't think there's any other workplace that someone could find where they're this flexible with accommodating school."

When it comes to their creativity, Athena recently created a custom beverage for work. "I actually just got my first drink approved on the menu. ... It's a peach iced tea lemonade named the Peachy Palmer," they explain. 🍑 "I'm really excited about [it]." Fun fact, the beverage bar makes almost all their own syrups and coffee flavors - and everything's organic! "Our lavender water is made in the deli, and we make our vanilla, chocolate, and simple syrup as well as the base for the harvest steamer and all our lemonades."

✅ Board election: Get to know this year's board candidates before voting opens on Sept. 1. You'll be casting votes for your top two candidates, with winners announced at the annual owner meeting.

✅ Annual Owner Meeting: Mark your calendar for Sunday, Sept. 13 at Gale Woods Farm. We can't wait to share the year's success with you!

✅ Lunch ticket reservations: Check your mailer for details on how to reserve your lunch ticket from Aug. 15 through Aug. 31.

At Lakewinds, we love to partner with ranchers that prioritize environmentally conscious practices, like local Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed. 🌱

On their farm, beef cattle are rotationally moved through pastures, emulating native bison herds. This grazing practice is not only better for the cattle, but the native grasslands help sequester carbon, are habitats for birds and other animals, promote biodiversity, improve watersheds, and create healthy soil on the farm.

According to the USDA, the American beef industry is dominated by large, specialized feedlots, and they estimate that 99 percent of beef sold in major supermarkets is conventionally raised and grain-fed. Thousand Hills is going against the grain by providing consumers with delicious, more nutrient-dense, lifetime grass-fed beef that also benefits the environment.

Thank you for supporting local farmers and ranchers like Thousand Hills who work hard each day to feed our communities in ways that are better for the animals, more nourishing to people, and benefit the planet. 🌎
