Rise N Shine Homestead On the Rise N Shine Homestead, our mission is to provide a healthier lifestyle option by raising farm to table food for people in surrounding communities.

Also provide Teaching & Training classes on how to live a more self sufficient lifestyle. Things we do on the homestead! Livestock: We raise Hogs, Cornish X Chickens, Layers for eggs and Goats. Gardening: We grow a large variety of vegetables for selling on the produce stand, farmers markets and canning. Classes: We are experienced in chicken processing, gardening, harvesting, canning, and much more that we like to teach and train others to do as well.

For years we have planted into the groundl of our 1/4 acre garden. Last fall we decided to down size a bit and build 12 raised bed gardens out of old barn wood, installed and tin for easy maintenance and harvesting and inatalled and irrigation system.

Today we were blessed with prime black dirt, hauled it and filled the raised beds with it. We can't wait to see how all of this raised bed gardening is going to turn out.

Last year we built 16 raise beds to down size our garden a bit. We never had a chance to finish the rest of the garden due to unforseen circumstances. This spring we are going to finish it. I trenched around the garden and the beds by hand to bury water line to install an irrigation system to each raised bed. All the pipe and connections done. Rest Time.

With the temps dipping down into the 20's and 30's next week, its winter prep time on the homestead.

We opened up the chicken coop to allow more room for our layers, placed young layers in coop and the meat birds on the other side. Now they are all cozy and bedded down for the cold temps.
