It is that time of year again!
Dear Potential Buyer,
My name is Sierra Hemond, and I am a sophomore at Poland Regional High School. I am excited to be exhibiting my market steer, Double Stuf, at the 2026 Cumberland Fair.
Double Stuf is especially meaningful to me because my project with him began at the 2025 Cumberland Fair, when I caught him through the Calf Scramble. What started with chasing a calf across the arena has turned into an entire year of feeding, training, caring for, and preparing him to return to Cumberland Fair as a finished market steer.
Throughout the past year, I have been responsible for Double Stuf’s daily care, including feeding, health management, halter breaking, grooming, exercising, and preparing him for the show ring. Raising a market animal takes a lot of time, patience, responsibility, and commitment, and this project has helped me continue building skills that I will use throughout my future in agriculture.
I am also an active member of the Young Farmers 4-H Beef Club and the Red and White 4-H Faces Club. In addition, I own and operate Hemond Show Stock, which has given me even more hands-on experience raising, managing, and preparing livestock. Being involved in these different areas of the livestock industry has helped me continue learning while working alongside other people who share my passion for agriculture.
My future goal is to become a large animal veterinarian. I hope to continue working with livestock and agricultural producers while helping improve animal health and well-being. Projects like Double Stuf, along with operating Hemond Show Stock, give me valuable hands-on experience with animal care, nutrition, health, responsibility, and management while helping prepare me for that career.
The market animal auction is one of the most important parts of this project because it gives community members the opportunity to directly support youth agriculture. When you purchase or help purchase a market animal, you are supporting the months of work, time, and dedication that an exhibitor has invested in their project.
The money I earn from selling Double Stuf will be put directly back into my agricultural goals. I plan to use it for future livestock projects, feed and animal care expenses, show costs, and other opportunities that will help me continue working toward my goals in agriculture and veterinary medicine. Support from buyers allows me to continue gaining experience, grow my livestock projects, and take advantage of opportunities that will help prepare me for my future career.
You also do not have to purchase Double Stuf entirely on your own to support my project. Families, groups of friends, coworkers, or businesses can go in together and split the cost. This makes supporting a market animal much more manageable while still making a huge difference for a youth exhibitor. Even getting a few people together to bid as a group is a great way to support local agriculture and invest in a young person’s future.
I would be incredibly grateful if you would consider bidding on Double Stuf at the 2026 Cumberland Fair Market Animal Auction. Whether you purchase him yourself, team up with family or friends, or simply attend the auction to support the exhibitors, your involvement means more than you may realize.
Double Stuf represents a full year of hard work for me, beginning with catching him in the 2025 Calf Scramble and ending with bringing him back to Cumberland Fair as my finished market steer. Your support would not only reward the work I have put into this project, but would also help make my next project and my future goals possible.
Thank you for considering supporting Double Stuf and me and for investing in the future of youth agriculture. I hope to see you at the Cumberland Fair!
Attached are a photo of me catching Double Stuf and a recent photo of him!
Sincerely,
Sierra Hemond
