Wild Run Nigerians

Wild Run Nigerians Rebellious Gen-Xer with a hippie heart and a punk kid, owned by Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats. Est. 2023

Facebook doesn't have a category for Homestead, so Farm it is. Just a girl, who is a hippie at heart, with a family who celebrates/tolerates my shenanigans. Leaning into self sufficiency, sustainability, and providing for others. We acknowledge that we are in Minot, Maine, the traditional and unceded territory of the N'dakina People, Wabanaki/Dawnland Confederacy. We honor this land and elders, bo

th past and present as we seek to grow in our understanding as custodians of their ancestral home from time immemorial.

We’ve had a couple of exciting new additions arrive over the last few weeks. We meant to introduce them, but show prep and recovery apparently took over our entire personality for a while. Oops.

And somehow, there’s more. We have a few more special friends headed our way, including a finished champion/Bold Elk daughter. We’ve checked multiple times and yes, she’s actually coming here.

Honestly, we’re a little emotional about it. The trust and support we’ve received from our goat community means the world to us. Every breeder who believes in what we’re building and entrusts us with a piece of their program is something we never take lightly.

We’ll be sharing our new friends over the coming days, so stay tuned. Our herd is growing, our dreams are getting bigger, and our feed bill is trying not to make eye contact with us.

We have a nearly new Hoof Boss for sale. I say nearly new- I only ever put it together and test ran it. All pieces and parts still in bag/blue grinder attached. Selling because it’s just too bulky in the hand for me.

Asking $200, paid $325. Open to barter/trade.

Everything is green again. The trees are full, the air is softer, and the goats spend their evenings buried in fresh branches like they’ve been waiting all winter for this exact moment.

Well yeah, because they all look like this.

We are on the hunt for an appropriate sized enclosed show trailer- thinking 6x10ft/12ft, ideally one that already has stalls, but they can be removed for winter hay storage. Open to different set ups, but prefer split doors on the back and side door.

Preferably within 2 hours of Minot, ME.

There’s something special about the first one.

Wild Run SD Koriandr — the first doe born carrying our farm name — had a really lovely weekend at the Wicked Early/Spring Show. After spending last year bringing up the rear, she came back this year and held her own in a tough 1 year old milker class, landing near the top in all three rings: 6th, 5th, and 4th.

She’s matured so much already, and still feels like a doe with a lot left ahead of her. Day two was a hard one, she wasn’t feeling her best and the stress clearly caught up with her a bit, but she still walked in, did her job, and gave us plenty to be proud of.

We were especially happy to hear compliments on her powerful structure, udder capacity, and strong medial suspensory ligament.

The best does aren’t always the ones having the easiest day — they’re the ones that still walk in the ring and try for you anyway.

What a glorious weekend! We spent Saturday and Sunday in Windsor at the Wicked Early Shows. Heart of Maine Dairy Goat Association and SMDGA put on lovely shows every Spring.

We also were able see so many of our friends- which after a long winter is a such balm to the soul. Thank you to our friends, Mo and Catherine, for some awesome photos! And Josh, for feeding us so well!

And if that wasn’t enough goat-ness, we were invited to be a part of Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village’s Spring Fest today, with our crew of wethers.

We had the MOST fun. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather this morning-followed by blazing sun, and the lines, to hang out with the babies. What a vibrant, community filled day. Everyone eager to help us keep our goats safe, THANK YOU. And two of our sweetest- got to go home with a wonderful family eager to welcome them. Really the cherry on top of a packed, long weekend.

Gratitude abounds. Now some well earned rest before the week begins.

We just wrapped up an awesome couple days of showing with our girls and hanging out with our goat community besties. Let’s keep the goat party going and come see our busy and fun little boys tomorrow!

Spring Fest is rain or shine! Farm life! We will be moving most of the animals indoors and vendors will be under tents.

Please leave your pets at home. Due to the number of farm animals at this event (and others) we kindly request you not bring your own pets.

Black fly season came on with a vengeance. My poor Kori is getting eaten up. She’s also my girl who is allergic to mites. We just got her healed and looking good, now on to black fly season and they aren’t holding back.

I’m cleaning her with diluted Chlorhexidine 2-3 times a day just to prevent any more issues. Hydrocortisone cream where I can to help the itch. And obviously using fly spray. But, she’s kind of a mess.

What are other folks using? Anything else I can do to help her skin?

Did I finally just get the goats registered for the Wicked Early Show? Yes. Is the deadline tomorrow? Yes.

But, last year it was on the deadline, so… Winning!
