It is a pretty scary time at AuSable River Lavender. The house is surround by the rising river on all sides. So far the field is dry. Thunderstorms tonight with heavy rain. Need some prayers.

Mother Nature gave me a glimpse of my 1st-year lavender that has been under snow since the end of November.

We had a very quick thaw, and a few lavenders were underwater. That night it was cold and the water froze. They looked much better the next day, and the water receded. The plants that were not covered were munched on pretty well by deer, but there's still some green, so I'm hopeful.

My golden retriever, Sunny the explorer had to dig in my lavender hoping to find a treasure or to just making more work for Mom.

I took a peek at my Supers that were covered, and they look great. My experiment looks promising. I had very small plants that I started from seed. I planted them in their pots in my garden in November, and they might make it.

I'm not counting my blessings right now; I want to get through this month and see what April brings us. Can't lie, I am very excited by the results so far.

Time will tell whether covering or not covering the field in winter is more effective. Due to time constraints, I was unable to cover the entire field as initially intended. Deer have been a significant issue, causing damage by trimming and uprooting several plants. Covering the field would have prevented this damage, particularly when the plants are young. I am gaining valuable experience throughout this process and look forward to seeing a vibrant display of purple, pink, and white next spring when I share photos of this area.

Our first lavender distill this weekend!

It smelled so good, and we learned a lot through the process. Already looking forward to the next one!

Colors are really starting to pop. Mother Nature was not being nice with the winds today.

Welcome to AuSable River Lavender 🌿

Nestled along the AuSable River at our family cabin in Northern Michigan, this dream began with Tina, whose love for lavender inspired something new.

This past spring, we planted our first half acre of lavender. The plants are still young and growing, and we're beginning to experiment with distilling our own lavender oil. Our vision is to one day craft products from our lavender - but for now, it's all still in the early stages.

We're so excited to share this journey with you.
Follow along and stay tuned as we grow and discover what's ahead, right here on the river. 💜
