Flower feature! Bells of Ireland (Moluccella laevis)

We are big fans of this unique and stunning floral design element - it’s bendy, it’s bright, it smells amazing!

It comes with a plot twist - they aren’t actually from Ireland: Despite the lucky name and the vivid green color, they are actually native to Turkey, Syria, and the Caucasus region.

Those aren’t petals either! The big, beautiful green “bells” that run up the stem are actually calyxes. The little white and pink flowers bloom inside each bell. Growers usually trim off each leaf to show off the green bells.

Flower feature!
We are back with another feature.

🌸 Meet Agrostemma: Cottage Royalty with a Rebel Past 👑
We love her for your delicate stems that are the first to bloom in Spring and look like each one is hand-painted.

Agrostemma literally means "Crown of the Field." but this little flower is commonly known as Corncockle and was dominantly magenta-pink. The common name has deep English roots. Back then, "corn" didn't just mean corn on the cob—it was the general word for any grain field (like wheat or rye). The word "cockle" comes from an old Old English word (coccel), which literally translates to "w**d." Put them together, and Corncockle simply means "the w**d that grows in the grain fields."

Farmers actually considered it a major nuisance—mostly because its seeds are toxic if accidentally milled into bread flour... but now we grow it as a delicate and very special cut flower.

Every year we grow more than we need and becomes a fun early season crop to share. This year we grew Purple Queen and Ocean Pearls.

Flower feature: Foxglove

This flower is a big favoirte of ours and right out of a fairytail. 🧚‍♂️

Meet Foxglove (scientific name: Digitalis purpurea).

Legend has it that fairies gave these spotted blossoms to foxes to wear as gloves so they could silently sneak into chicken coops. Another tale says the spots on the inside of the bells are marks left by elves' fingers. We haven't see elves or fairies yet but the bumblebees love them! 🦊

You might have heard that it is poisonous, but it is also a biological masterpiece. It contains chemicals called cardiac glycosides (specifically digoxin and digitoxin). Digoxin, a crucial medication used to treat heart failure and regulate heart rhythms. Talk about a double agent! ❤️

Featured varities we grew this year: Dalmatian Peach; Camelot White; Camelot Lavender

Featured bloom: Lilly of the Valley ✨This has quickly become one of my favorite flowers and the smell is heavenly.

The ultimate symbol of spring, protection, and the “return of happiness.”

🤍 Legend says Apollo created Lily of the Valley to protect the delicate feet of his muses. Today, it stands as one of the world’s most cherished good luck charms. 🍀 People for centuries have used it as a good luck charm and it’s become a go to for me as well.

May your week be filled with new beginnings and a little bit of magic as these blooms are amongst us.

we got to use some for boutonnieres in the wedding last weekend, which felt really special!
