South Dakota Center for Farm/Ranch Management

South Dakota Center for Farm/Ranch Management Farm management in South Dakota has been helping producers develp data through statistical analysis proceedures since 1975.

Farming is a business and it is our goal as Farm Business Management instructors to provide you with an education and understanding of financial managment relating to your operation so you may make decisions based on the most accurate information. Individual producers receive a detailed financial business analysis of their operation as well as comparative data through the averages allowing each op

eration to benchmark themselves locally and regionally. There were approximately 90 farm operations included in the 2010 annual report from central and southeastern SD. The program is currently expanding to cover all of eastern SD in 2011 and western SD in 2012. Now is the first time in many years that there are numerious openings in the program due to the expansion. Farm Business Management Education is concerned with :
Creating an awareness of the need for accurate financial and enterprise records. Stimulating families to establish goals and set priorities. Developing the farm/ranch operator's understanding of the function of management. Develop student skills in analyzing and interpreting farm/ranch business records. Developing skills in analyzing data to improve the organization and effiencieny of the farm/ranch operation.
