A snippet from my interview today on NEWSMAX with Ike Wingate — I spoke about how the war on beef has waged on for an entire generation, death by 1,000 cuts that’s pushed ranchers off the land in record numbers and has resulted in the lowest beef numbers we’ve seen since the 1950s.
President Trump’s recent announcement purchasing 300,000 metric tons of imported “product for ground beef” has had an interesting effect in uniting independent cattle producers and associations that may be at odds on a wide variety of other industry issues.
This purchase has created uncertainty and volatility in the cattle business, right before the fall run of weaned calves and cull cows. Any short term savings on beef will be minimal compared to the long-term implications on producers as they weigh the risks of retaining heifers and working to rebuild the nation’s beef cow herd.
My message to the President is — Bet on the American cattle rancher. We can rise to the occasion of feeding this country the highest-quality beef that is the envy of the rest of the world. Please, continue to prioritize America First policies that put consumers and producers first. That means raising our food right at home to ensure we remain free and fed by our own farmers and ranchers for the next 250 years. And that means making sure our consumers have a choice in a free and fair market. We can compete against foreign beef, but please differentiate USA Beef on the shelf to make sure citizens are empowered to make decisions at the meat case with the full knowledge of where their food comes from.
Mr. President, American cattle ranchers are tough. We have grit, passion, determination, independence, faith, and patriotism that runs deep in our blood. Bet on us. Just like we bet on you. We won’t let you down.
God bless,
Amanda Radke
