They’re the familiar faces who listen when you have questions, celebrate your progress, calm your worries, and make sure you feel heard and cared for. Their knowledge and expertise are invaluable, but it’s the compassion and personal connection they bring to every patient encounter that make them truly special.

Health literacy is the degree to which someone has the ability to attain, process, and understand health information in order to make well informed care decisions.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, only 12% of adults in the United States have proficient health literacy. Over one third of adults have basic or below basic health literacy, and research suggests that low health literacy is present among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis.

Barriers to IBD care include a variety of patient support needs including nutrition, depression, anxiety, and stress management. This is why we've partnered with SideBy Care to offer our patients a multidisciplinary educational team. Learn more about Sideby Care at https://tr.ee/sidebycare.

October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month! We want to give a big thanks to our amazing ultrasound tech, Ashlee West, for providing more than an image but providing answers for our patients.

In gastroenterology, ultrasound is a valuable tool that can help physicians evaluate the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, bile ducts, and other abdominal structures, supporting diagnosis and ongoing care.

This month, we're happy to recognize Ashlee and all of the skilled ultrasound professionals whose expertise helps turn images into information that guides better patient care.

Today, on National Women’s Health Day, we’re reminding women that taking care of your health includes staying up to date on preventive screenings. Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths in women, with a lifetime risk of approximately 1 in 25.

For adults at average risk, colorectal cancer screening is recommended beginning at age 45. Make your health a priority, not just today, but every day. Talk with one of our GI specialists about which colorectal cancer screening option is right for you.
