Fireplace trap out.
A honey bee trap-out is a humane way to remove a colony of honey bees from a structure like a wall, tree, building, or in this case a stone fireplace without tearing anything apart. Instead of destroying the hive, a one-way wire cone is placed over the bees’ entrance so they can leave but can’t get back inside. All other openings are sealed, and a small “bait hive” is set up nearby with frames of wax or comb to encourage the bees to move in. As worker bees leave to forage and can’t return to their original colony, they gradually relocate to the new hive. Since the original queen remains trapped inside, a new queen is usually introduced to the bait hive so the displaced bees can form a new colony.
This process takes patience, it typically lasts about 3 to 6 weeks, sometimes longer depending on the size of the colony and weather conditions. While it’s a great option for avoiding damage to structures and saving many of the bees, it’s important to know the original colony usually won’t survive, and leftover honeycomb inside the structure can attract pests if it’s not removed later. Hopefully, these bees will move into the bait box asap and the trap-out will be successful. Striving to make the homeowners bee free!!!!

🐝📚 What a special day sharing the magic of bees with some bright young minds! 📚🐝

I had the incredible opportunity to visit the school where my wife works as an elementary librarian and spend time with a group of amazing 2nd graders. We dove into the fascinating world of honey bees, learning fun facts about how they live, the important role of pollination, and what it takes to be a beekeeper.

The highlight for many was seeing real bees up close and personal through an observation hive, lots of excitement and a few “wows” as they spotted the busy workers in action! 🍯

Of course, no visit would be complete without a sweet treat. The students got to sample fresh, pure honey and our homemade honey butter, one of the products we proudly make and sell.

Moments like this remind me how important it is to educate the next generation about bees. These tiny creatures play a huge role in our ecosystem and are essential to our future. Inspiring curiosity and respect for them at a young age truly matters.

Grateful for the chance to share, teach, and maybe spark a few future beekeepers! 🐝💛
