Hard Earth Farm

Hard Earth Farm We are a small family farm located in Modoc SC that supplies a variety of products to the CSRA. We offer fresh Grade A raw goat's milk and goat milk soap

We're a family-owned and operated farm in Modoc, South Carolina. We are deeply committed to the causes of sustainability and health, with a reverence for the Earth which touches all that we do. The patch of that Earth which nominally belongs to us is 140 acres of South Carolina. With the recognition that we own it only in name, we've used 45 of those acres to build our pastures, with the remaining

land protected under environmental easement. We draw all of our water (including that used by the garden and the animals) from springs on our property, and run our graywater through an extensive filter system that renders it safe to return to the water table. We also compost and use composting toilets, so very little goes to waste on Hard Earth Farm. We've created this website to allow the web-traversing public to learn more about who we are and what we do. From here we can share anecdotes and photos, advertise our wares, and perhaps even provide or receive advice about farming and sustainable living.

Hello everyone, sending one last post update to all of you because I realize you all still follow our farm( and even more people have started in the few months). We sold Hard Earth Farm in the Fall of last year. We have LOVED watching the new owners make the farm their own. They are building a beautiful house on the property which absolutely thrills us. They have a few sheep and continue to leade pasture to the same guy we did to rotate graze his cattle. Timing in life is everything and and we were so happy to pass the farm off to our new friends and were especially glad due to a few health hiccups with Farmer Mickey. So we are now able to keep busy and keep up with our own homesite of 40 acres. So I am going to give you a glimpse of what we have been up too and then make this page private if I can do that I will continue to get memory pop ups.
So back when we started farming we spent very little time at our home. There was simply not enough time or energy for both properties.... So since the sale of farm we have been creating a beautiful backyard that didn't exist... So again many of you have asked what have you been doing... Here you go: I have repurposed many things my husband has collected over the years from reclaimed bricks, piles of them covered up with dirt over the years. I learned to lay bricks and built a walkway and patio. Used old tin and old decking boards to make raised beds. Old rope to make fence around flowers to keep dogs out. And so many rocks on this property to make beds. We have been able to add more walks and pond time for the dogs. Cleared brush to have view of pond. Hauled gravel and shoveled and raked gravel. Everything but swing and actual deck structure was done by us with a little help from our kids when in town.
So know that we have successfully retired from the Farm and are staying VERY BUSY!!! Best wishes to all of you and thanks again for your support over the years. ❤️
