Originally, the Fort Smith Stockyards was made up of different commission firms in which sellers could sell their cattle through them. Since 1941, cattle have been bought and sold on the very same grounds where the Fort Smith Stockyards stands today, 70+ years later. The stockyards still holds a weekly cattle auction every Monday morning at 9:00am and cattle are received all day the day before on

Sunday. The facilities provide water to every pen and feed to cattle if the seller or buyer so chooses. Additionally, there are larger lots available if a larger quantity of cattle are consigned. The yards also offer a competitive market with buyers from all over Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri. The slaughter cattle market is one of the best in the region with buyers purchasing cattle for slaughter that go as far north as Omaha, Nebraska, as far south as San Angelo, Texas and as far east as Brown Packing in South, Carolina.
