The yard crew is officially on clean-up duty!
After a long, chaotic night, we’re finally able to take a breath, assess the damage, and count our blessings. And friends, we have SO much to be thankful for.
Here’s our final assessment from Panzik Acres:
• The woodline is a mess, with trees and branches down everywhere.
• Woodline fencing is gone.
• The small shelters in our breeding and quarantine pens have disappeared. Where did they go? Somewhere deep in the woods, I imagine!
• All main pasture fencing is intact.
• All main shelters are still standing and in place.
• Every single animal is accounted for, safe, and secure. And that is the biggest blessing of all.
• Our tractor, side-by-side, and vehicles are all safe.
• Generators are full and running to keep our milk and meat safely preserved.
We have a LOT of work ahead of us, but it’s just stuff. Fences can be rebuilt, shelters can be replaced, and trees can be cleaned up. Our animals are safe, our family is safe, and we have each other. That’s what matters most.
To all of our friends, neighbors, and fellow farmers waking up to damage, debris, and the overwhelming task of figuring out where to even begin: you do not have to fix everything today. Take your time, check on your people, and give yourself permission to rest when you need it.
Please be careful out there. Watch for downed power lines, unstable trees, hidden debris, and other storm hazards. Check on your neighbors if it’s safe to do so, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. We’re all in this together.
We know the cleanup can feel overwhelming, but we will get through this one step at a time. Take care of yourselves, keep your loved ones close, and remember that it’s okay to feel grateful and exhausted, relieved and overwhelmed, all at the same time.
Sending so much love to everyone navigating the aftermath of this storm. May we all find a little peace in the chaos and remember just how resilient our little communities can be.
One fence post, one branch, and one deep breath at a time. We’ve got this.
