When you decide to release “in memory of" balloons, they don’t go where you hope and think they will. They usually end up in a field where livestock are. Often, young calves or goats will chew on/eat the balloons…

Ingesting plastic such as a trash bag or a balloon can cause intestinal blockage in animals. This may cause starvation. Some livestock may even choke on the balloon, causing a very painful death.

For wildlife and even PETS, they can become entangled in the balloon strings, causing them not to be able to move or even strangling them.

I understand the sentiment behind releasing balloons and the grief felt from losing a loved one. BUT there are so many other options!

- Plant a flower garden or make a rock garden in memory of a loved one.
- Plant a tree and watch it grow.
- Host an “In Memory” Celebration WITHOUT releasing balloons.
- Name a star.

Remember: releasing balloons may give you a moment of comfort, but somebody else may be hurt by the consequences.

EDIT TO ADD: This goes for trash bags as well. Please, don't dump out trash on the road side!

Many, if not all, of the McCullough Peaks wild horses were negatively impacted by the recent roundup. The 39 horses removed will never know freedom again, but some of the horses remaining on the range are having difficulty adjusting to the drastic changes they face. One such horse is the 18-year-old stallion, Running Bear. You may remember that Running Bear and his entire family were removed from the range and brought to short-term holding during the last week of the roundup. His family included co-lead stallion, 17-year-old S.S. Surprise; 19-year-old mare, Paintbrush, 19-year-old mare, Crowheart; 7-year-old mare, Lily, 13-year-old mare, Ms. Packman and Ms. Packman's 2023 c**t, Stormrider.

Running Bear, S.S. Surprise, Paintbrush and Crowheart were returned to the range at the conclusion of the roundup, but the younger members of Running Bear's family (Lily, Ms. Packman and Stormrider) were permanently removed. The family joined together immediately after release and even added the mare, Miley, to their family (Miley's entire family was removed during the roundup), but things have just not been right. Ever since his return, Running Bear has been very agitated. After the roundup, Running Bear began constantly lunging at all the other family bands. At first I thought he was trying to keep them away from his remaining family, perhaps trying to protect them, but after a while it was apparent that he was testing them, looking for weakness.

Running Bear eventually found weakness in the stallion, Tahlequah. Tahlequah not only lost many family members to the recent roundup, but he also lost his two loyal lieutenants, Thor and Tupi, to tragic accidents. For the first time that I can remember, Tahlequah is now alone with his mares, without a lieutenant to assist him. Running Bear has noticed this too, and now appears focused on taking Tahlequah's family from him.

During the last few weeks, I observed Running Bear not only performing the role of lieutenant to Tahlequah, but constantly do***ng the stallion and viciously battling with him. Running Bear continues to act as lead stallion in his own band with S.S. Surprise, but that role seems secondary to Running Bear's quest for Tahlequah's family. I'm not certain how this will end, but thus far, 14-year-old Tahlequah appears to be holding his own...and I hate to say this, but I have never seen Running Bear look so beat up. I'm hoping that Running Bear will give up this fight and return to his family before anyone gets seriously injured. We can't afford to lose any more of these precious horses ❤

~Easy Jets Mother~ Must read i had no idea!!!!!
~Lena Bars~
A Thoroughbred daughter of the stallion Three Bars, Lena's Bar was out of Lena Valenti, a granddaughter of Percentage. Thus, Lena's Bar had Percentage, Three Bar's sire, on both sides of her pedigree. Lena Valenti raced on the Quarter tracks, ending with a record of two starts, one win, one third with an AA speed rating.
Lena's Bar raced mainly in Quarter Horse races. She started seventy-six times, winning twenty-four races. She placed second eighteen times and was third ten times. Her total earnings were $28,308.00 with 67 racing points with the American Quarter Horse Association (or AQHA). She rated an AAA speed rating in those races, and was a stakes race winner. She once outran Go Man Go, Double Bid, Tidy Too, Miss Louton, Vandy's Flash and Vanetta Dee in one race. Her sister Little Lena's Bar set four world records at four different distances.
After Lena's Bar retired from racing, she produced the Quarter Horse stallions Double Dancer, Jet Smooth, and Easy Jet, along with two Quarter Horse mares – Delta Ann and Mayflower Ann. Her offspring earned $557,199.00 on the track, with all five being winners and Register of Merit earners.
Lena's Bar was inducted into the AQHA's Hall of Fame
Can you imagine a race horse running 76 times this day and age?? Thus being why Easy Jet horses were so sound. People sought out her blood line knowing it would produce soundness. Easy jet race throughout his entire career without any sort of lameness. Thats amazing.
