COCO Housing

COCO Housing We are a Group Equity Cooperative Farmstead in Central Maine. Our governance structure is cooperative. The house has 6 bedrooms and 3.5 baths.

Three people are currently under contract to purchase this beautiful farmhouse built in 1912 and are looking for more members to join us! We have established an LLC, and are using that to purchase the property, so it belongs to all members, equally! We will run this as a working farmstead and use the revenue to fund the restoration of the historic buildings. Once the restoration is complete, sched

uled for 2026, we will use further revenue to build a new multi-family building in the back of the lot, tucked away behind a sheep and flower farm, and bakery. Each member will have their own bedroom and will share a bathroom with one other member. The common spaces include a large kitchen, and two living rooms. We are open to families with children. Really, we are open to anyone who wants to share this dream with us! We have some pets already and have discussed the possibility of accommodating more by separating portions of the house to create separate "pet zones" to avoid stressing out our little pals. As a group we are pretty easygoing and work to accommodate each other. Want to find out more? Take our interest survey! https://www.jotform.com/form/221555911700045

Please join COCO Housing Saturday, March 18th and Sunday, March 19th!

Vernon M. Byron, a Hudson Valley based conceptual artist will be visiting Thanelpa Farm to demonstrate how to build and install loft beds.
Participants will leave with the knowledge and graphic plans to make their own loft bed. Attendance to the workshop and visiting artist celebration is FREE.

An additional option is to leave with wood pieces cut to size to build your own loft bed. We will need lead time to purchase and pre-cut the materials. Payment of $375 (with stairs) or $300 (without stairs) will also need to be made ahead of time. If you are interested in this option, please fill out this form and reach out to arrange payment by March 13th.

Attendance at all of the weekend's events are free. Donations are welcome, and will support the work we are doing to build community arts and resilience programming in Central Maine.
If you are interested in any or all of these options, please use the link to register! https://form.jotform.com/230524944127151

Apologies for the radio silence-- we have been busy!!!

We closed on the property December 16th and once we returned from the holidays we have been cleaning, removing, adding, sanding floors, and moving!

On January 28th we had our first work party, and some really dear friends and family came to scrape wallpaper, install doors, and clean the barn-- thanks in large part to connections we made though Collaborative Living Maine -- collaborativeliving.me

It's truly amazing to be part of this shift in the paradigm in regard to how we are together as humans in this world!
Please stay tuned, as we will be posting in the next days and weeks about our upcoming monthly programming, which will be posted here and, on our COCO Events Maine, Facebook and Instagram pages-- stay tuned!

COCO is short for
Cooperatively Owned, Community occupied.

Our governance structure is cooperative.
All Members own the property, equally.

The buy-in is $780 and can be paid out in installments, up to 12 months (one year).
The monthly housing fees will average out to $900 per bedroom, based on a scale that considers household size, household income, and square footage of private bedrooms.

The income from Members will pay for housing costs and the restoration of the original buildings.

Once the restoration is complete, scheduled for 2026, income from Members will build equity for a multi-family building in the back of the property that Members will move into.

The property will be shared with a cooperative farm that housing
co-op Members can also join.
The farm co-op will pay rent and profit share with the housing co-op to fund the restoration of the historic buildings, and construction of the new building.

The house has 6 bedrooms and 3.5 baths.

Common spaces include a large kitchen, three living rooms, and a laundry room.
The land is 8 acres.

Currently, we have available:
- A two-bedroom, one bathroom section that could be ideal for either a family or two separate Member households to share
- One bedroom that has easy access to the sunroom

The back field is currently grass and bugs and birds.
Soon it will be home to gardens, and eventually also greenhouses and a multifamily building.
