First day of puppy mush, ground up puppy food mixed with goats milk. I would say it was a success! The puppies loved it and dove right in. It was so adorable to see their faces and front legs covered in food and then they would lick themselves and each other to get the extra food off.
The puppies were 3 weeks old yesterday! I just put collars on today so I will get some pictures of the boys and girls later.
I’ve lost my farm helper because my mother is in the hospital and probably won’t be able to return to helping me on the farm. So things have been a little more hectic around here.

Leash training your livestock guardians is important. Most of my pastures are connected to one another by a gate. But not all of them. Some require walking from one to the other on a leash, sheep and goats and dogs included, so all my animals are leash trained. But training you lgd to walk on a leash is also important for going to the vet, getting in a car, just administering medicine for having greater control, or just training them to teach them you are the master!

This picture is my walking with my largest lgd, Henry. You can see I have a very loose lead, he doesn’t pull in any way and when I stop he sits and focuses on me. I was bringing him from his evening pasture he guards with young lambs to the bigger pasture he goes to during the day with more dogs and adult lambs.

Just sitting with Sierra today while she feeds her puppies. They all have spots and badger marking on their face. Most of my dogs have these markings (except Sierra) and they all fade except the tips of their ears stay grey.

I also got some Welsh Harlequin ducklings because ducks are so much fun and they lay a lot of eggs!🥚

Just a little update on Rosemary the bottle baby. She went to a friend of mine, Dayna Demeter at Howling Haven Farm.

I was so worried about little Rosemary at first making it and she had a really hard time in the beginning. I found her under the hay feeder, totally abandoned by her mother, not cleaned off nor fed and cold. I brought her in and warmed her up with towels and a blow dryer and next to my body to get warm and then gave her some goat colustrum. After that she was on a heating pad for a day or two right by me all the time in a laundry bin having bottles every two hours but very small amounts and still very weak. Gradually she started to move around and start to walk but she would walk a little and then lay down to rest. I wasn’t sure if she would make it. I had promised her to Dayna because I had already retained too many lambs this year and really didn’t need another. I convinced her that bottle babies are something special. But boy was it hard to give her up when Dayna came to get her. How attached you can get in just a little over a week, especially when you really put your heart into it.

But I’m happy to say that Dayna took great care of her and she is doing great and has fit into her herd of babydoll sheep and is now happy and healthy and loved!

So the other exciting thing happening here, is that I got to drive to the airport 1.5 hours each way and back today to drop off my last lamb. She is going to Fairbanks, Alaska. Actually the 3rd lamb this year going to Fairbanks! But the fun part is that Alaska airlines told me they wouldn’t take her because her health inspection needed to be within 10 days and hers was within a month, just like I’ve done for the lambs I sent a month ago and last year. They even told us that on the phone reserving. So I got a new health certificate when I got home and she is going tomorrow back to the airport and hopefully off to Alaska tomorrow!
