Watching Rachel Entrekin win Cocodona outright this year inspired me and re-lit a fire I didnโt know had gone out. In one of the interviews she gave following the race she said, โHard is why weโre doing thisโฆ I am doing things like Cocodona to see if I like the person that emerges when things get hard.โ
This year might be my Cocodona. It feels like the blows keep coming, but we are remaining grateful, hopeful, and still working at making this place work for us every day.
I finished planting tomatoes for the third time this year after losing the first two plantings. I had 7 rows of flowers all open up at once with temps hovering around 105 for 3 days. Fires, floods, plugged irrigation, cleaning filters and flushing drip lines, filling in on the engine, working through the night at fire dispatch, huge electrical upgrades, losing our horse.
I am feeling the heaviness of the season, AND I think I like who I am when things get hard now.
