The flies are back with a vengeance this year! Here’s how we’re handling it.

When we went out to check the cows with pawpaw last week, it was quick & easy because they were all hanging in the shade staying cool!

Spent the morning preg-checking heifers with a full crew in the corral.

A lot of people don’t realize how much goes into herd management days like this. Sorting, running them through, pulling blood, recording all the info… it’s a job that requires a full crew of good help.

So thankful for experienced farm friends who show up for us, get dirty with us, teach as they go & help us get it done. (Shoutout to Clay, Ginger & David!) It was my first time seeing what all goes into blood testing, I learned so much!

Fun fact: for this preg test, the best vein to draw from is actually on the underside of their tail. Farm knowledge you probably never expected to learn scrolling Facebook!

Overall just a successful day in the corral with good help, good people, and a group of heifers that cooperated.…mostly. 🤠

All of it! The blue sky, the green grass, the happy cows, the openness, the freedom, it’s all my favorite.

This drought is really showing itself around here. Our pond is down about 2 feet from normal… so much that the kids were out there “playing in the pond” in the dirt!

Crazy what a difference the lack of spring rain can make. Praying for some good soaking rain soon for the pastures, ponds, and everybody’s gardens.
