We are a little nuts!
Are we crazy? Some days I truly wonder what we got ourselves into. We are the Crowson’s, Danny and Misti and this is the beginning of our nutty story.
My husband was born into farming and has spent his whole life dealing with the crazy hours, uncertain harvest yields, pricing and the greasy, dirty, painful aspects of this life. Me, not so much! I am a city girl who has her whole life yearned for the country living, at the ripe ole age of 5 I declared I would marry a farmer, well I got what I asked for and more!
Now for present day. After several years of research, picking brains and crunching numbers we decided as a retirement venture to get into Hazelnuts or Filberts as some call them. Now keep in mind, we are not retired yet so this all is taking place in our spare time. Not sure where we found all this time but we are making it work.
We started with a few tree starts, just over 8000 in the spring of 2015 and grew them out in a greenhouse for a early February 2016 planting. Through the muck, mud and rain and help with family and a few friends as crazy as us we got our first orchard planted. There have been a lot of trials and tribulations but we made it. We only lost a little sanity because we decided to do it all over again and grow out thousands of trees and plant one last orchard. We are Nuts!
