Adam Blumer
April 1, 1844 - March, 29, 1918
Mr. Blumer was born at Bilten, Ct. Glarus, Switzerland, on April 1st 1844, and emigrated with his parents to this country in 1849, who located on a farm in Town Washington. In 1855 his father died and from that time he had to do his share in conducting the farm.
Later he managed the large farm in Washington township and he was one of the first to
engage in dairy business.
In March 23, 1865 he united in marriage with Margreth Hefty of Town Washington. Seven
children were born to them of which 6 are living. The children are Mrs. Rosina Theiler, Mrs.
Jacob Lehnherr, Adam, Fred and Jacob all in Monroe and Mrs. Evra Blumer of Town
Washington. One daughter, who was married to William Blumer died some years ago.
During his stay in Town Washington he served the Township for many years as chairman.
In 1891 he sold his farm to two of his sons-in-law and moved to Monroe, taking possession
of the Monroe Brewery. Under his hand this business was turned from a small plant to a big
establishment equipped with all the modern devices, necessary for the production of a first
class product. Later he took his sons in as partners of the business.
Mr. Blumer was a man of a sturdy constitution and unusual body strength, good hearted
and friendly to everybody and his friends are numerous.
Since he was in Monroe he served the city as alderman and was always a strong promoter
for good order and personal liberty.
