Looks like we have a new supervisor ☺️

Yesterday afternoon, our Boarder Collie Olive assisted Kevin in picking up our first cutting hay bales from various fields at the farm and down the road.

She may not be able to drive the tractor, but she knows how to jump inside the cab and be adorable and sometimes annoying 😅

All in all, she takes tractor rides very serious🧐

Took a nice walk around our rented field down the road from us. Beautiful little piece of land that sits beside our families old church and butts up to the River Raisin.

One of the main reasons I took this little stroll is to pickup any debris that may have been raked into the windrows that are about to be baled into hay.

One of the biggest threats our animals face is eating garbage that is baled into their food 🤢

So it has become a routine chore to check and check again ✔️ ✔️

To my utter amazement, I found this much garbage on a 2/3 acre lot!

Now I understand things blow in the wind 💨 and man has it been windy lately! But the plastic golf balls are just the perfect size to choke and kill any of our cattle, not to mention plug up some very expensive farm equipment.

This is my PSA, if you live next to a farm field, PLEASE think twice about what you’re allowing to blow and/or hit into those fields 🙏🌱🫶🏼🐮

Tomorrow marks the 28 year anniversary since the 1998 Derecho which killed 4 and injured another 146 people. This derecho produced winds as high as 130mph which is equivalent to that of an EF-2 tornado.

Michigan averages about 1 derecho every single year, and they are more common in southern Michigan during the summer months of June, July, and August.

While not every derecho will be as powerful as that of May 31st 1998, it still serves as a stark reminder that it doesn't have to be a tornado to be highly impactful and dangerous. Straight line wind events should always be taken just as seriously.
