We brought our little pink piglet into the house last night until she could get on her feet. Tasha - our purebred Berkshire - went into labor this morning. I wasn’t there, but Preacher Man got some pictures. He decided to put our pink piglet in with Tasha’s litter (she had seven live babies - two stillborn, couldn’t be revived) to see if she could get some good colostrum. She latched on and is now going to live with Tasha’s litter! Brandy’s litter and Tasha’s litter are both doing great!

We had an exciting afternoon! Brandy ended up with 12 piglets - 11 born alive. Preacher Man was able to revive the one that was born dead. She is now eating, walking and will be living in the house. Gonna have to think of a name now…

Babies with hooves are born with “slippers” - foals, calves, kids, lambs, and piglets. This keeps hooves from damaging mama inside and on the way out. They usually fall off within an hour.

This is why he wants to be here when they are born. This little gilt comes out not breathing, and he does everything he can to save her…
She’s not out of the woods yet…but she is breathing on her own now!
