It's that time of year again! I'm not telling anyone what to do but I am sharing what I do. Each spring and early fall I give my chickens a dose of diatomaceous earth. I mix it into the food in the scoop so it coats the pellets and then put it in their open dish. I believe it helps them and it has never been followed by any crazy decline in their health so I do think it hurts them. It's just what I do.

Homesteading ingenuity at its finest! We ended up with about 35 extra birds after chick season so I decided to build a new coop to grow them up. We took an old play scape tower and reworked it into a very effective coop!

Here's our final box of babies. There's a good mix of Rhode Island reds, Lavender Orpingtons and Splash Orpingtons.
