County Fair

If you caught my stories last week I talked about my hometown county fair that was scheduled to start next Wednesday. This event is the highlight of the summer for our county, and something we all look forward to each year.
•
I posted those stories Friday. By Monday, the McKinney fire was causing devastation and the town of Yreka was under evacuation. The fairgrounds became a fire camp and the fair was cancelled.
•
The fair board and Junior Livestock Auction, along with have worked since then to pull together an event for youth exhibitors to show their market animals and sell them. This is happening across the border in Oregon next weekend.
•
This is only my second year helping with livestock, but it feels like an important one. I’m grateful we’re still able to get these animals showed and sold, and grateful to have been raised in a community that bands together when the going gets tough.
•
Over the next week there will be a whole lot of effort put into this event by many, and I’m lucky to get to be part of that behind the scenes.
•
I’ll take you guys along with me on my stories, even though it won’t be a regular fair. I hope you don’t mind a break from our regularly scheduled programming, but this is a story I really care about sharing.
