We have a small herd of lamb and cattle that we raise on our land in Montague. In about a month we will be taking them to the slaughterhouse, and this year we are selling this high quality 100% grass fed meat as half lambs and bulk beef. This is a sweet opportunity for you to get wholesale meat prices!
A LITTLE ABOUT THE ANIMALS...
This year we raised ten Dorset lambs and two Normande steers. They have lived a grain-free grass-fed diet on our eight acres of organically managed Montague pasture. We rotate them regularly, and believe we have given them some of the best care possible. We've chose to take them to Hilltown Slaughterhouse in Canaan, New York because of their great reputation, and because they are animal welfare approved.
HOW MUCH MEAT WILL THERE BE? AND HOW WILL IT BE PACKAGED?
The meat will be butchered, frozen, and packaged into individual vacuum sealed pieces at the slaughterhouse. The lamb will be sold as half or whole lambs. The weight of each order will vary based on the animal, but a half lamb will likely be between 20-25 pounds (so 40-50 pounds if you got the whole lamb.) The beef will be sold as packages of 15, 30, 45, or 60 pounds. These beef packages will represent a diverse selection of cuts from the animal. And for the lamb there will be stock bones and organs added at no extra cost if you'd like them.
SAMPLE HALF LAMB BOX
3 pounds loin chops
4-6 pounds shoulder roast
2 pounds leg
5-6 pounds shank
2 pounds tenderloin
2-3 pounds ground
2-3 pounds stew cuts
Yummy!
SAMPLE BEEF BOX
The types of cuts will vary based on the poundage ordered and the slaughterhouses cut preferences, but generally you can expect one third grounds beef, one third roasts, and one third steaks and other miscellaneous cuts (ribs, stew meat etc.)
HOW MUCH FREEZER SPACE IS NEEDED?
35-40 pounds of meat will take up around one cubic foot of freezer space. And if you don't think you have the room but are still excited about all this maybe consider splitting a box with friends.
WHEN TO PICK UP
The pickup date will be Saturday November 1st. We have limited freezer space, but if you cant pick up the order on the 1st we may be able to hold it for a few days.
