As we are packing, stacking and stuffing all our life up and are transitioning into our BIG downsize we have a wonderfull momento to take with us...5 years ago, one of our very first visitors came for a weeks stay and brought a nice little book to leave in the modular so folks could share there expierences while visiting, Shasta Valley Ranch and our area, if so desired...This beautiful book has over 85 entries and I have enjoyed reading each and every one, through the years...It is a sweet token of each individual, expressing the many different enjoyable aspects of there visit here and what it meant to them...Clearly our desire and efforts to share our unique space and area has been a positive and cherished adventure for many, through the years....Truley a successful endevor and adventure that has sparked long term frienships with many...I will keep this book in a special place and reflect upon each and everyone that came and shared our space as time marches on! MANY, MANY thanks to those that visited and followed along on our journey, here at Shasta Valley Ranch and beyond.....This is going to be my last post here as we are wrapping up our move.....

It has been such an amazing several years being able to provide peacefull and safe overnight accommodations to traveling horse folks as well as sharing our area with those that have visited with and without horses. This morning we will send off our last overnight visitors...It is official, "our gates are now closed" as we begin to transition into the next phase...Our BIG downsize!

Waking up to rain showers this morning...Dont count spring out, Summer is suppose to begin in two more days...Well we will see about that! Yesterday thunderstorms rolled through again and our mountains got another, YES another light batch of snow....We caught a glimpse of our first young coyote this year and the crows were giving it a very hard time out in the pasture...Mt Shasta was shrouded in clouds all day but by evening we could see the new low snowline...Whaleback, Miller Mountain, Goosenest and Willow Creek Mountain were all sporting there new white coats of snow....

There is no place that I would rather be than high atop a mountain and deep into the forest enjoying a ride through old ...

Things are starting to bloom up at higher elevations and some favorite areas are open...The Klamath National Forest has done an amazing job this year clearing all the blow downs and opening the forest service roads to the many trailheads...I recently was able to make the drive from Miller Mountain to Willow Creek Mountain...Its the perfect time to get out and ride in some of these FANTASTIC areas....

A group of lovely ladies returned this spring and enjoyed some great rides and there stay here at Shasta Valley Ranch! They presented me with a beautiful gift before there departure...A barn quilt! I have indeed seen these a time or two out in our rural community but did not know what it was or the concept around the beautiful bright colors hanging on old barns or buildings....What a GREAT concept and a BIG thank you! I love ours!
BARN QUILT
Perhaps you've seen a brightly painted pattern on the weathered face of a dilapidated barn as you’re driving down a country road. Though you likely didn’t give it much thought at the time, these surprising squares of color are becoming part of the rural landscape.

A barn quilt takes the concept of a quilt square, just like one you would find on a cloth quilt in your home, and recreates it on plywood or composite aluminum (which is lightweight and durable). The plywood or aluminum square is then displayed on a barn or other structure for passersby to enjoy. Squares typically measures 4 feet by 4 feet or 8 feet by 8 feet; and the designs are mostly made of solid colors that compose a simple geometric pattern of squares, rectangles, and triangles. The idea is that the bold colors, size, and graphic features of the barn quilt can be seen at a distance when hung on their roadside canvases.
