Today is Saturday, March 28, 2026, and National W**d Appreciation Day! National W**d Appreciation Day on March 28th each year reminds us that some w**ds are beneficial to us and our ecosystem. Humans have used w**ds for food and as herbs for much of recorded history. Some are edible and nutritious, while other w**ds have medicinal value. Do you remember as a small child the fun you had with dandelions? Well, these bright yellow flowers serve a purpose. Dandelions are a food source for insects and some birds. Humans eat young dandelion leaves and enjoy tea and wine made from the leaves and flowers. The Native Americans used dandelions to treat specific ailments. Nutritionally, dandelions contain a source of vitamin A and C, calcium, iron, and fiber. A w**d is basically any plant that grows where it's not wanted. For example, if your vegetable garden is overrun with lambsquarter, it might be stealing nutrients from your tomatoes and onions. This prolific plant was once used to make lettuce salads or cooked and used as a replacement for spinach. And it still can be, but it's known more as a nuisance in the gardening world. Many other w**ds have gained this reputation because they are unsightly and difficult to remove. They don't follow the rules of other plants that gardeners and farmers have found to make for successful planting. The Federal Noxious W**d list is maintained by the USDA. Some states also maintain lists.

Today is Friday, March 27, 2026, and International Scribble Day! With a stroke of a pen, ideas come to life through scribbling. Let your creativity flow and unleash the power of the doodle! Ranging from some of the smallest children to the oldest of adults, and everyone in between, just about anyone can scribble! And scribbling can be a delightful relief from stress, whether used as an emotional outlet or a way to create art. International Scribble Day is here to show appreciation for and celebrate the simplicity of the activity of scribbling. All it takes is just a piece of paper along with a writing utensil, and it’s perfectly simple to enjoy the day! Founded by Diane Alber, International Scribble Day got its start in 2019. The day began as a nod to the children’s book written by Alber called “I’m NOT Just a Scribble. The theme of this cute book, which was published in 2017, is that art can come in any form and anyone can be encouraged to be an artist. Other themes of the book include ideas about kindness and acceptance, as well as inspiring creativity. With a desire to encourage people young and old to accept others as they are, the hope of this day is also that people will be inspired to be creative. Even people who don’t think they are very ‘artistic’ can have something creative to offer to the world – even if it’s just a scribble! International Scribble Day is here to raise awareness for the important themes of kindness, acceptance and unique forms of creativity. So get on board with celebrating this important day! Historically, scribbling was used as a pre-writing exercise for children. Ancient Greek and Roman educators encouraged it as a way for children to practice forming letters and understanding symbols, making it an early tool for literacy. Scribbling started as a child’s play but gained traction in the early 20th century when psychologists like Carl Jung explored it as a way to express subconscious thoughts. Today, adults scribble to unwind and boost creativity, proving it’s a serious tool, not just child’s play.

This is the end of our FINAL CHAPTER...

To our family, friends, long-time customers and the new faces who we have had the privilege of sharing our lives with, we just want to say, Thank You! We are so grateful to have met so many wonderful and amazing people and pets. Thank you for your love, support, inspiration and the community that you provided here at Dragon's Tale Brewery. Thank you for being such a huge part of our lives in our journey. We will truly miss all of you and the companionship you have given us these last 10+ years!

Today is Wedmesday, March 25, 2026, and Tolkien Reading Day! Take a journey through a magical world filled with brave heroes, fierce battles, and unforgettable adventures in a beloved classic series. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer, poet, translator, and Oxford professor during the 20th century. He is now most famous for his books that were eventually turned into films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. In addition to these more popular works, he also wrote poems, children’s stories, and academic papers. Some of his lesser-known, unpublished stories were released by his son after his death. With the impact of the Lord of The Rings film trilogy firmly influencing the popularity of the books, Tolkien Reading Day was set up by The Tolkien Society with the hope of getting even more people to read and discover that there is much more to Tolkien than just The Lord Of the Rings. Although originally decided upon in 2002, the First Tolkien Reading Day did not actually take place until March 25th, 2003. This is because a journalist from New York enquired as to whether or not there was such an event for Tolkien in January 2002 and the society liked the idea so much they adopted it. However, there was no time to prepare anything for that year, so they postponed its public appearance until the following year. The Tolkien Society chose an important date from Tolkien’s book, The Lord of the Rings, to celebrate the reading day: March 25th symbolizes the Downfall of Sauron, ruler of Mordor and a generally, all-around evil character. One of the most well-known fantasy writers of the modern era, J.R.R. Tolkien conjured up an entire magical universe that was not only filled with suspense and action, but also with heart, soul, and emotional strength.
