Time to get to work!

Made our way up to Pierz, Minnesota at a very well run second year contest - MN Masters BBQ & Walkin' Wings last weekend. Managed to have pretty good results, but honestly it was a struggle! We were once told by some old sage BBQ professional (a decade younger),….”never give up on a box”! Pretty great advice! We had a couple of proteins spend some time in the fridge post cook again, and though you’d prefer not to,….sometimes you have to pull out all the stops. So,…though not our most consistent cook, we made some good adjustments! Here are the results;

7th place Smart Chicken
7th place Compart Family Farms ribs
10th place Compart Duroc pork
5th place Snake River Farms brisket
3rd place overall

Congratulations to Grand Champion - Son of a Boar BBQ and with a tie for first (lost the coin toss) Reserve Grand Champs Hot Daddy's BBQ!

No time for me photo’s, but we did stop at a couple of fun spots! Shoutout to Thielen Meats of Pierz! Get their peppered bacon,…it’s great, awesome old school butcher shop! Also shoutout to Roxanne at Bootleggers Bar Pierz Mn, who took great care of us! I’d recommend the Spicy Cheeseburger and a Shiner Bock Beer!

Back at home base after another fun trip to Smokin In Steele Owatonna Mn. We always enjoy this contest, as it really is the birthplace for us in Competitive BBQ! The staff, organizer’s and volunteers were terrific as usual. Here are our results;

Chicken - 9th
Ribs - 8th Compart Family Farms
Pork - 12th Compart Duroc
Brisket - 9th
Overall - 7th

Congrats Grand Champs - Dry to da Bone and reaerve grand champs Hot Daddy's BBQ and to everyone else who heard their names called!

Only took one picture all weekend. We loved this Snake River Farms brisket!

First contest of 2025 is in the books! Missy and I had a solid cook and came away with decent results in another heavy field of contestants at Fire On Ice from as far as Canada, Texas and even Maine!

Our results;
4th place Smart Chicken
17th place Compart Family Farms ribs
24th place Compart pork
2nd place Snake River Farms brisket
5th place Overall out of 42

Congratulations Shiggin' & Grinnin' on just another Grand Championship, and Winnipeg’s own Big Smoak bbq coming in 2nd!

Thank you Tony Korthaus and his bunch of volunteers, and the great folks Izatys Resort Mille Lacs for organizing such a great event, and taking care of all if us crazies!

For those following , we were proud to finish with our teamates Hot Daddy's BBQ 3rd and Aces High BBQ coming in 6th. Boy, Minnesota has some talented cooks, congratulations to everyone who heard their names called!

The American Royal World Series of Barbeque is like nothing else. The world’s largest stage for competition BBQ. It’s pretty amazing how many people are bit by this bug, and the whole thing has quite literally changed our lives! Very blessed to have the friendships that we’ve formed over the last 9 years!

Okay, enough of the soft stuff! Lucky 19 didn’t make it to the Invitational round this year, but we competed in the open against 444 other teams, and we finally made the stage!

Chicken - 238th and a 168 just didn’t do a good enough job with tenderness. Got the score we deserved
Ribs - 247 (see above)
Compart Family Farms Pork - 3rd place with a 179.44! Finally got on the big stage!
Brisket - 193rd - thought it was better
Overall - 134th

Highlight of the weekend was seeing our teammate Hot Daddy's BBQ winning Grand Championship in the Invitational on Saturday night! 🤩 💥 🔥

Congratulations also to our Minnesota friends Ugly Baby BBQ Competition Team who scored a perfect 180 wnd 2nd place chicken in the open!

Congratulations to everyone that heard their name called, and heck,….to all of us crazy people that do this!

Back home from a whirlwind trip to Puckaway Pigfest, Montello, Wisconsin. We thought we had a good cook, and for the most part, we were right!

Results;
6th place Smart Chicken
7th place Compart Family Farms ribs
2nd place pork
……..27th place brisket 😩
9th place overall out of 37

Oh, and Missy taking 4th place beer stein holding contest with our pal Kristina Braun taking 3rd!

Congratulations to Grand Champ Janky Leg BBQ, who was apparently on a mission! I believe we have a new first place leader in the KCBS team of the year race! Congratulations also to reserve grand champs Burnt Trees BBQ, who has an incredible batting average this year!

Thanks to everyone at Lake Arrowhead Campground for putting up with us crazy bbq people! The organizers and volunteers did a great job! Thanks also to ours buddy Wags for another killer breakfast and for everyone that organized the Saturday night potluck (bbq’ers cook all day and never eat,….its weird).

Nothing for us until the end of October when we head to KC for Boo-B-Que and the American Royal! Good thing I have time for some minor truck repairs (my fault) 😩 🤦 Thanks Dan Dicke for the help and emotional support after my oops!
