Chopper Pump vs. Grinder Pump — What’s the Difference? ⚙️💡

One of the most common questions we hear:
"Is a chopper pump just another type of grinder pump?"
Not quite - and here’s why...

It comes down to how solids are handled.

A grinder pump uses a grinding mechanism to reduce solids into a controlled slurry before pumping.

This makes them well suited for low-flow, high-head applications - including residential, commercial, and pressure sewer systems - where consistent solids size is important.

That approach, however, comes with tradeoffs:
• Higher power consumption ⚡
• Reduced pump capacity

A chopper pump takes a different approach - it chops as it pumps, with the cutting action built directly into the pump itself.

Because real systems don’t deal with ideal conditions - they deal with wipes, rags, and debris - maintaining flow becomes critical.

• Higher capacity
• Better efficiency

In loving memory...

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Sandra (Vaughan) Schluter on March 20, 2026.

Sandra was the daughter of our founder, Jim Vaughan, and a lifelong part of Vaughan Company. She served as a member of our Board of Directors for over four decades, from 1982 until her passing, offering steady guidance, thoughtful leadership, and unwavering support.

Her presence helped shape the company we are today. Sandra carried forward the values her father instilled - integrity, commitment, and care for the people behind the work; and ensured they remained at the heart of Vaughan Company through every generation.

To us, her role went far beyond the title of Director. We are deeply grateful for her years of service, her quiet strength, and the legacy she leaves behind. Her impact will continue to be felt in the work we do and the way we carry this company forward.

Our hearts are with all who knew and loved her.

In honor of Sandra Schluter, her legacy will remain a lasting part of Vaughan Company. 🤍
