When I wanted to buy working dogs for my goat herd, I wanted to buy from breeders that cared about working ability as well as good conformation. I was lucky to be able to acquire dogs from such blood lines and from people passionate about the quality that they produce. I also was able to learn from these people and leap forward in my understanding of this breed through their help. Genetics are important, but what you do with those genetics is almost as important in my opinion, and that’s where my keen ear for listening really paid off. I am thankful to my mentors, for they planted seeds that will endure long after their involvement in my life.
I recently produced a small litter of pups from 2 wonderful parents that passed on their great looks and working abilities. I had every intention of retaining these pups for my growing goat herd of 700 plus…so, when I got a call from a family inquiring about Anatolians, I was reluctant to even mention this group of young dogs. I felt confident that these dogs would be great goat guardians, but this family needed dogs that would protect Swans and Ducks. Since I don’t have water fowl, I had some reservations….and lots of advice on how to make this work. They listened….
I congratulate the Clerey family for their accomplishments . As first time Anatolian owners, you are doing great.
Remain diligent and watchful. Please don’t let up on your hard work. I am so happy for your current success. Reach out anytime. Remember….your dogs will always be my pups…
Thanks for keeping me informed. Nothing makes me happier as a breeder.
