Hades is different.
He's certainly got the stuff that makes you take a second look at him.

Is he perfect? Nope. There's a couple things we would change about him, but he doesn't need to be changed. That's the whole premise of breeding the next generation--to figure out what works better.

This weekend, one of Hades' daughters won grand overall at a show. One of his sons won reserve overall. That's the stuff that gets us excited! When our goats produce offspring that hold up in the show ring...it's the sweetest victory we could ask for. And yes, I do mean PRODUCE. Both of those goats are from live covers of Hades to their mothers.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with flushing; I'm only saying that it's nice when it isn't necessary😉

FUN little tidbit...yesterday we took Ares to a show. He's in his very awkward, teenage-looking, nothing-but-gristle stage. We expected very little from him other than a couple of points for the show series...how wrong we were. I'll post results when we have pictures, but Ares had an amazing day.

It proved to me that sometimes we get too wrapped up in having our goats "supremely ready" to show, including extra body condition on them. There are still some judges out there that don't require it, and we really appreciate that when we encounter them. Seeing the structure and the potential for the breed should be what's important.

Okay but when he picked up the tail and kicked it into high gear, literally the cutest🥰

Rumble is getting big...like BIG. He still likes to get out and scoot between meals.

We are so excited for his fall run in the show ring💍 He got himself 107 Abga points this spring; we'll see what fall has in store for him!🍂

When these two get together it's like a weird flashback to 3 years ago while also being in the present.

I see herds losing their sires all over the place; it's a constant reminder that their time is fleeting. All of our time is, really.

Hades isn't making that any easier right now. He's been having some issues, nothing serious, just a cold here and a bad spot in his hoof there. He is nearly 4 years old now. It just makes me think about the reality that there will come a day when he isn't with us anymore.

But I can honestly say that when that time comes, we think we have managed to make a suitable replacement for him. Ares in some ways is even better than his dad. He's green, yeah, we know. But all the good stuff is there. The only thing he needs is time. Hades went through the same exact stages as well.

One of these days we'll go out to the barn, and Ares will have truly arrived. And we still have Hades around to thank for that.
