Florida friends, hurricane season is no time to wait until the shelves are empty! Make sure your household is ready before the storm approaches. Here's your reminder to get prepared. 💙
✅ FOOD & WATER ☐ Drinking water (at least 1 gallon per person per day for 3 days; more is better!) ☐ Nonperishable food for at least 3 days ☐ Canned goods, crackers, peanut butter, protein bars ☐ Manual can opener ☐ Shelf-stable milk and snacks ☐ Food and water for pets and livestock
✅ POWER & COMMUNICATION ☐ Flashlights and extra batteries ☐ Battery-powered or hand-crank weather radio ☐ Fully charged phones and power banks ☐ Backup charging options ☐ Extra batteries for essential devices
✅ MEDICAL & PERSONAL NEEDS ☐ Prescription medications and important medical supplies ☐ First-aid kit ☐ Toiletries, soap, and hand sanitizer ☐ Toilet paper and baby supplies, if needed ☐ Glasses, hearing aids, and spare batteries ☐ Cash in small bills
✅ HOME & PROPERTY ☐ Secure outdoor furniture, grills, and loose objects ☐ Bring in hanging plants and decorations ☐ Clear gutters and storm drains where safe ☐ Check shutters and window protection ☐ Fill your vehicle's gas tank before the storm ☐ Photograph your property and belongings for insurance records ☐ Know how to turn off utilities if necessary
✅ IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS ☐ Identification and insurance information ☐ Copies of prescriptions and medical records ☐ Emergency contacts written on paper ☐ Important documents stored in waterproof bags ☐ A family evacuation and communication plan
✅ DON'T FORGET THE ANIMALS! 🐓🐕🐈 ☐ Pet food, water, carriers, and leashes ☐ Livestock feed and clean drinking water ☐ A safe shelter for chickens and other animals ☐ Extra bedding and supplies ☐ A plan for transporting animals if evacuation becomes necessary
✅ BEFORE THE STORM ☐ Know your evacuation zone ☐ Have a meeting place and an out-of-area contact ☐ Keep your refrigerator and freezer as cold as possible ☐ Freeze water bottles to help keep food cold during an outage ☐ Follow local emergency management alerts ☐ Never drive or walk through floodwater
